Arthur's Ride (Classic) galloped 1 1/4 miles under exercise rider Damian Hinds. Trainer Bill Mott said, "He looked good to me today. He was just showing good energy and moving well. Everybody knows who he is. He is pretty easy to identify (because of his white color).
City of Troy (Classic) jogged clockwise one lap and then turned around to canter 7 furlongs with the O'Brien team. Trainer Aidan O'Brien said, "He'll go a little bit further and a little bit faster tomorrow, but it'll just ramp up a little notch every day. A little bit longer a little bit faster and always comfortable. That's the plan, but it doesn't always go according to plan, as you know."
Fierceness (Classic) galloped approximately 1 mile under exercise rider Danny Wright. Trainer Todd Pletcher said, "Everything that he didn't show us, from the Derby to the Belmont, he then showed us everything we wanted to see from the Jim Dandy to the Travers. It was really just sort of seeing how the horse was doing, and gauging his fitness level, and just everything about him, sort of what you do with all of them. Some of them work out, as in his case. Sometimes there is no right move. But this case we fortunately chose correctly."
Forever Young (Classic) did a light exercise on the main track and schooled in paddock. Trainer Yoshito Yahagi said, "Everything goes as we planned. He moved very well yesterday and his condition after the breeze is nothing to worry.

Mixto (Classic) galloped 1 1/2 miles with Tony Romero up. Trainer Doug O'Neill said, "He loves Del Mar!"
Newgate (Classic) galloped 1 1/2m under exercise rider Umberto Gomez then schooled in the paddock. Trainer Bob Baffert said, "It's not an advantage at all (to have a win at Del Mar). All the horses here are good. All the races are tough. You can't make a mistake. Newgate looked good today. He is coming into this race really well."
Next (Classic) galloped twice around. Justin Atkins, assistant to trainer Doug Cowans said, "He's doing great. We're just going to let him go out there and look around."

Rattle N Roll (Classic) galloped a little more than 1 1/2 miles under exercise rider Danny Ramsey. Trainer Ken McPeek said, "He would have been second choice at Keeneland in the Fayette Stakes (last Saturday) for $350,000 and we are running for $7 million. The ownership group was game to do it. They said, ‘let's do it.' Why not? How many chances are you going to get?"
Senor Buscador (Classic) visited starting gate and then galloped 1 1/2 miles under Dennis Means. |
Sierra Leone (Classic) had a standard one-circuit gallop of the main track. Trainer Chad Brown said, "He's moving super over the track and has looked really comfortable. We just have to see how the track is playing. The biggest concern is how these horses are going to handle however the track was playing. In the summer, it seemed that you had to be really forward in these races. I'm hopeful that the track will even out a little bit, so we'll just have to see."
Tapit Trice (Classic) galloped approximately 1 mile under exercise rider Amelia Green then schooled at the gate and in the paddock. Trainer Todd Pletcher said, "Hopefully, he can work his way over (from post 10). He looks to me like the kind of horse that can. I'm kind of assuming he gets off to a little better start than he did the last time in the Woodward. I would think he would be the kind of horse that could hopefully fall over into a mid-pack position and hopefully save a little ground."
Alice Verite (Distaff) worked 5f on main track in 1:02.40 under new jockey Kyle Frey. Trainer Kazuya Nakatake said, "Kazushi Kimura meant to be riding her race and breeze, but he couldn't ride her breeze today as he is riding at Santa Anita. We swap to Kyle Frey and he will ride her in the race as well."
Sugar Fish (Distaff) galloped 1 1/2 miles under Amy Mullins. Trainer Jeff Mullins said, "She could have been claimed for $40,000 then $62,500. No takers. After she won going seven-eighths (by 10 lengths) and going to two turns, she really showed herself."

Ferocious (Juvenile) galloped 1 mile. Trainer Gustavo Delgado said, "I like this post (4). We have been 1 all the time it seems (two of three career starts). Saratoga. Kentucky. We get the 1. I think with this post, he will be more relaxed. There are some very fast horses in this race, and we are not interested in going to the front. We just want to be at the front at the finish."
Hill Road (Juvenile) worked 4f in 48 seconds.
Immersive (Juvenile Fillies) galloped 1 1/2 mile. Trainer Brad Cox said, "She's doing great. I love how she's coming into the race. Manny (Franco) has ridden her in all three starts, so he knows her well. I think she's setting up for a big run."

Tigerish (Juvenile Fillies Turf) is the second also-eligible. Should she draw in, Tyler Gaffalione gets the call for trainer Richard Baltas.
Virgin Colada (Juvenile Fillies Turf) galloped a mile on the dirt track. Trainer Chad Brown said, "With her, I'm very interested to see her running on firm turf, which is what she wants. I'm also excited to see her finally get a pace to run at. You'd have to think there'd be a solid pace in this race and she hasn't seen one in her three starts. She has a really good turn-of-foot that's been lying dormant because she just doesn't have the pace in front of her to show it."
Aomori City (Juvenile Turf) galloped on the turf. Trainer Charlie Appleby said, "He has good, solid form in Europe winning the (Group 2) Vintage and finishing fourth in the (Group 1) National. We've always felt that he was a horse who is (physically) neat and travels strongly. He's a 2-year-old type who's a good mover. I always sort of had this race earmarked for him because I thought he fit the sort of credentials to be there. He's the type of horse whose style of racing suits. You'd hope he'd run a strong race around there."
Dream On (Juvenile Turf) galloped 1 mile. Trainer Mark Casse said, "I thought (the Summer Stakes) was a great race. It looked like he was going to win and kind of lost focus, which happens a lot of times at Woodbine. They have 3/8 of a mile, it's a big, open place and the young horses lose focus. Looked like he was going to win. And I think that was a very strong race."
Iron Man Cal (Juvenile Turf) galloped 1 1/2 miles. Trainer Phil D'Amato said, "He is another one that has benefited going to two turns."
Minaret Station (Juvenile Turf) galloped 1 1/2 miles. Trainer Will Walden said, "He was professional. Ears pricked the whole time and looking for the rider to tell him what to do next. Exactly what you want to see from a 2-year-old."
Arizona Blaze (Juvenile Turf Sprint) drew post 5 as a 15-1 shot. Umberto Rispoli gets the call for trainer Adrian Murray.
Big Mojo (Juvenile Turf Sprint) worked 4f on turf in 50.60 seconds. Jockey Tom Marquand said, "Big Mojo is a different model to Big Evs. A bit stronger and bigger with a different running style. He tends to take a lead, so we'll see how he breaks. I'm really looking forward to getting on him and he felt fantastic on the grass this morning. It's probably taken him a little bit longer to settle into American life, but you can forgive a horse when he's a quick learner and he looks a picture."
Shareholder (Juvenile Turf Sprint) drew post 4 as a 12-1 contender. William Buick gets the call for trainer Karl Burke.
Carl Spackler (Mile) galloped 1 mile. Trainer Chad Brown said, "The one thing he has going for him is he has good gate speed, this horse. You're going to have to use a little fuel there. Tyler knows the horse so well and he does prefer to be on the lead or in the clear, so that part we should be able to get to. It's just a matter of how much ground he's going to lose in a race where he's going to have to run his very, very best figure."
Geoglyph (Mile) worked 5f on turf in 1:04.60. "All good and no trouble" said trainer Tatsuya Kimura

Nakatomi (Sprint) drew post 4 as a 6-1 contender. Tyler Gaffalione gets the call for trainer Wesley Ward.

Emily Upjohn (Turf) galloped on the turf with jockey Frankie Dettori. Dettori said, "Today was a very routine canter around but tomorrow we'll get her to use both leads which you need on these tight tracks. She seems in a good place in her mind and that's the most important thing at this stage. It's been a long time since I rode Emily Upjohn so it's nice to be back on her."

Jockey Tom Marquand said, "Big Evs is a nice small compact type and he's very quick and obviously we're taking on an American champion in Cogburn but looking forward to it. In terms of the wide draw (post 11 of 12), we'll come out with the foot on the gas and see how we go. We've got Bradsell out with us who is quick as well."
Motorious (Turf Sprint) drew post 2 as an 8-1 contender. Antonio Fresu gets the call for trainer Phil D'Amato.
