Kicking off the World Championships, the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) featured a full field of 12 two-year-olds going 5 furlongs around one turn of the turf. No Nay Mets was sent off as the 5-2 favorite off his win i the Exacta Systems Rosie's Stakes at Colonial Downs. In to challenge him included 3-1 second choice Magnum Force, winner of the Flying Childers Stakes (G2) at Doncaster, and 6-1 third choice Crimson Advocate, unraced since winning the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot in June.

Magnum Force (4) gains the lead in the stretch.

Jockey John Velazquez sent Crimson Advocate to the lead through quick fractions of 20.71 and 43.65 while pressed by Magnum Force and stalked by 27-1 Tiger Belle. In the stretch Crimson Advocate tired allowing Magnum Force to inherit the lead. Confidently ridden by Tom Marquand, Magnum Force held off late-running 24-1 Valiant Force to win by 1/2 a length in 55.31. It was another 3/4 length back to 24-1 Governor Sam third, and a neck more to favorite No Nay Mets fourth.

Left: Magnum Force heads to the winner's circle. Winning trainer Ger Lyons said, "I knew the horse was the right horse for the job, but if he was good enough, we didn't know until today. When you have Colin Keane riding for you, probably the most underrated jockey in the world just because he's a little bit like his trainer and likes to stay at home and walk his dogs and stay at the farm and not go around the world. Believe me, he's had two rides and two wins in the Breeders' Cup and it's about time the world opened up to him. It's fantastic."

Right: Magnum Force returns to the barn with his winner's blanket. Winning jockey Colin Keane said, "Obviously we had a good draw. We were aiming to be forward. There's a lot of pace low and wide for the first furlough and a half, it was a little rough up front. We kind of accepted it and set off a little bit. He's a horse with a natural pace. Likes a quick round. And at home he was trained around the bend. That was never an issue. But when we turned in, the pace collapsed. We got room when we needed, and he quickened up smartly. "

Left: Magnum Force in the post parade. Keane added, "Yeah I wouldn't be in the position I am without that man (Lyons), giving us the first job as an apprentice.  A lot of people would say, including myself, thought he was mad. We wouldn't be here without him. So just glad we can repay him."

Right: Magnum Force returns after the race. Lyons added, "It's huge credit to the horse, my team and Abdulla (Al Khalifa) my owner. There's plenty of us guys at home who could do this if we get the horses. And the secret to training winners is getting the horses — it's as simple as that. If a clown like me can train a winner of a Breeders' Cup, anybody can."

Left: Second place finisher Arizona Blaze returns after the race. Jockey Umberto Rispoli said, "It was the dream trip I wanted. I was sitting on the fence. I was waiting, I knew there was a ton of speed ahead of me. I take away the horse from the battle. I was trying to save the horse for the second part. I came to the top of the stretch and decided I have to take my shot. I saw the gap opening up on the inside, then I say, OK, it's time to go. Colin was riding the rail. He got lucky and found the spot on the inside and he just came around me.

Right: Third place finisher Governor Sam in the post parade. Trainer George Weaver said, "The horse ran big. We had to make a decision whether or not to commit. Paco went to the front, and we had a lead at the 1/16 pole. We couldn't hold. The Europeans bring some great horses over here and we finished third in a big race. He is an honest horse; he wants to win. I have a lot of respect for European horses. They bring their second-tier horses over here and they are better than our turf horses."

Fourth place finisher and beaten favorite Ecoro Sieg in the post parade. Jockey Christophe Lemaire said, "Other horses were a little bit quicker than him at the very first yard. They came inside very quickly and I had to check out. Never been in that position before. He didn't take a breath and couldn't quicken at the bend. We were in a good spot. Just a lack of experience." Trainer Hideyuki Mori added, "It was his first time that he couldn't take a lead and it was a difficult race for him."
