The $2 million Maker's Mark Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) featured a field of 12 older fillies and mares going 1 3/8 miles on the turf. Cinderella's Dream was sent off as the 5-2 favorite off wins in the Belmont Oaks (G1) and Saratoga Oaks (G2) Invitationals. In to challenge her included 5-1 second choice Full Count Felicia, winner of the Canadian (G2) and E.P. Taylor (G1) at Woodbine, and 11-2 third choice Moira, winner of the Beverly D (G2) at Colonial Downs but second in the E.P. Taylor.

Moira rallies in the center down the stretch.

Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. sent Full Count Felicia to the lead first time by through fractions of 25.38, 49.84, 1:15.08, and 1:39.90 while pressed by 53-1 Sunset Glory and stalked by 29-1 Beautiful Love. Into the stretch Full Count Felicia tired as Moira, 7th early under Flavien Prat, swept to the lead 3 wide through 10f in 2:03.41. Left: Moira heads to the winner's circle. Winning jockey Flavien Prat said, "She broke well and I was able to get myself close to the rail going into the first turn. It felt like the pace was slow, and on the backside, I didn't want anyone to get the move on me. I decided to get out and get myself closer and try to get the jump on everybody and it worked out."

Right: Moira heads back to the barn. Winning trainer Kevin Attard said, "Just fantastic. She's such a good horse. It's so rewarding to finally see her get that Grade 1. Had a great trip. She trained really well going into this race and it just unfolded in the right direction for us. She has (had a fine career). A little but underrated. Doesn't get the respect sometimes I think she deserves. It was nice to see her put it all together today and show everybody that she is a true champion."

Left: Moira heads out to the post parade. Co-owner Donato Lanni said, I had a feeling, this is like a dream come true. My idea was to buy a Canadian-bred filly and win the Woodbine Oaks. I wanted to put together a bunch of my friends, Canadian friends of mine, I've known Kevin for 25 years. Tom and Saul are my dear friends. They're players. They love the game, love the action.  I convinced them to put some money up. I got a bunch of my friends back home in Toronto and Montreal to put the money up. We bought this filly. Okay, maybe we'll win the Oaks, maybe the Plate. Offers started coming in. We didn't sell."

Right: Moira racing in seventh place first time by, as the only Canadian-bred entered in this year's Breeders' Cup. Attard added, "She's obviously a very special horse. Has meant a lot in my career. My first Queen's Plate winner. Being Canadian, growing up and training at Woodbine, the Queen's Plate is a dream. It's kind of the mecca of the championship, like a Stanley Cup to the NHL. When she won the Queen's Plate, I was floored with it, a dream come true. Had so much confidence in her that we elected to run her in the E.P. Taylor as a three-year-old. She had an unfortunate trip that day. But she proved she wasn't just a Canadian bred, she was a top filly on the turf in her first start really."

Second place finisher and beaten favorite Cinderella's Dream returns after the race. Jockey William Buick said, "She had a good trip, but they went slow and I just didn't get the split in time. She had never run over the trip before, so I had to save everything I could. She ran a super race and I think she's top class." Trainer Charlie Appleby added, "She looked a touch unlucky not to win and William had to sit and suffer until she could eventually get going. They didn't seem to go much of a pace but she's very talented and there'll be another day with her."

Right: Third place finisher Didia heads out for the post parade. Trainer Ignacio Correas said, "I didn't like her last race (fourth in the Mabee) and I had to find out what happened. We figured out what it was and thank God we did it. It's too complex to explain. She was perfect coming into this race. I was telling the owners we had the old filly, our filly. I am very proud of her. I thought she ran a helluva race and Jose (Ortiz) rode a helluva race. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. They are all good here. I will take a third in a Breeders' Cup race every day of the year."
