The $1 million John Deere Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) featured 14 two-year-old fillies going 1 mile on the turf. In to challenge her included 9-2 second choice Thought Process, winner of the Surfer Girl (G3), and 14-1 third choice May Day Ready, winner of the Jessamine (G2).

Thought Process continued to lead to midstretch through 7f in 1:22.15 before tiring. Lake Victoria, 7th early under Ryan Moore, rallied late to win by 1 1/2 lengths over May Day Ready in 1:34.28. Left: Lake Victoria heads to the winner's circle. Winning trainer Aidan O'Brien said, "She got crowded and bumped a bit on the first bend, so Ryan was very cool on her and obviously ended up farther back than he wanted to be. It was her first time on a turning track and she was uneven on the straight and it was her first time over a mile. Just wanted to say our very best wishes to Clem Murphy (Bloodstock consultant for Coolmore), who is usually here. Without him, none of this would ever be happening."

Right: Lake Victoria heads back to the barn with her winner's blanket. Winning jockey Ryan Moore said, "I know she broke in a little bit, but I think Frankie (Dettori aboard May Day Ready) was content to be where he was under the circumstances. When they hit the turn, I'm not sure exactly what happened in front of her. Horse or two bumped another and went out, and she went out and had to steady and make her way. She always shows up, there is no doubt about that. She always seems to find some trouble here and there. That's ok. That's racing."

Left: Lake Victoria heads out to the track. Moore added, "I didn't really have any concerns about handling the turns, over the distance, over the track. She's very unusual. She won a seven-furlong. She won seven the first day. Seven the next day. She won a Group 1 over seven at the Curragh, which is a stiff track, and then she dropped back and won at six in the GB park.  And for me there was no doubt that she would be suited to the mile here. And as I said, it was just a matter of getting a clear run, and we got that and she was too good."

Right: Lake Victoria in the post parade Owner Michael Tabor said, "She goes to the Thousand Guineas. What else would she go for? And then we take it from there. Hopefully she'll run a big race in that, and hopefully we've got a real contender next year for all the big filly races."

Left: Second place finisher May Day Ready trails the field first time by. Jockey Frankie Dettori said, "She's always slow away from the gate. I got on the fence and I was two horses behind Ryan (Moore), and then Jose (Ortiz, on Nitrogen) slipped off the fence and got behind Ryan. I thought, this couldn't happen any better. Going into the stretch, the winner just had too much power for me. Once Ryan pressed the button, we got 3 lengths behind and she ran an absolute storm."

Right: Third place finisher Nitrogen in the post parade. Trainer Mark Casse said, "Great performance but got a little unlucky; but when you run 14 horses and they are 2-year-olds. I'm proud of her. I'm not complaining."

The fillies break from the starting gate for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Jockey Jose Ortiz aboard Nitrogen (post 2) said, "On the backside, I was following the 1 horse (Lake Victoria) and the 12 (May Day Ready) made an early move down the rail. It was tight, but (Dettori) took it and he kind of shuffled me back a bit. I think I could have maybe won the race if I could have kept the position."
