Date: 09/13/2025
The $1 million Rogers Woodbine Mile (G1) celebrated its 29th renewal on Saturday afternoon. It features some of the best turf milers in North America and Europe looking for an automatic entry into the Breeders' Cup Mile at Del Mar on November 1, under the Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" promotion. Traditionally run over the one-turn mile on the outer E.P. Taylor Turf Course, for 2025 and possibly 2026 it is run around two turns of the 7-furlong Inner Course while the Taylor Course undergoes a year-long renovation on its backstretch. Conditions were typical for "Woodbine Turf Champions Day" with partly cloudy skies and a post time temperature of 24.9 C (76.8 F), with the inner course rated firm (GoingStick 11.1).

Alex Merriam, assistant to winning trainer Charlie Appleby said, "He's a special horse for everyone in Godolphin, from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, all the way down. He's been a bit unfortunate this season. It's nice to get a group one by his name this season."

So, it changed the dynamics a lot, and I think our horses find it challenging. So, I was not going to give up my position on Notable Speech. And he's an experienced horse, so I knew I could do that with him."

Taylor turf course is configured, it's not to her liking and when she did win on the turf, it was on the inner turf course. With the E.P. Taylor in your backyard, you've got to give it a stab, but obviously, now she's kind of back doing what she likes. And obviously she showed her true colours today."
