The $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) drew a full field of 14 two-year-olds going 1 mile on the turf. Gstaad was sent off as the 6-5 favorite off second place finishes in the Prix Morny (G1), Vincent O'Brien National Stakes (G1), and Dewhurst Stakes (G1). In to challenge him included 13-2 second choice Hey Nay Nay, undefeated winner of the Del Mar Juvenile Turf (G3), and 7-1 third choice Argos, winner of the Summer Stakes (G1) at Woodbine.

Jockey David Egan sent 10-1 fourth choice Outfielder to the lead first time by through fractions of 22.20 and 46.52 while pressed by Hey Nay Nay and stalked by 11-1 Street Beast. On the far turn Outfielder tired allowing Hey Nay Nay to briefly inherit the lead through 3/4 in 1:11.45, before Gstaad, 9th early, came out 4 wide to sweep to the front through 7f in 1:23.52. Kept to task by Christophe Soumillon, Gstaad held off late-running 58-1 longest shot Stark Contrast to win by 3/4 length in 1:34.93. It was a long 2 1/4 lengths back to 16-1 North Coast third.

Left: Gstaad heads to the winner's circle. Winning trainer Aidan O'Brien, now the winningest trainer in Breeders' Cup history said, "We feel so privileged. And like obviously working for such special people, with such special people. And today what could I say. Incredible. Christophe gave him a beautiful ride. It might be a big step for him to be trained as a Kentucky Derby horse next year because I think, really, in our part of the world, if you're going to do it, you kind of have to have a few trials. He's having a tough enough campaign now. He's running all those Group 1s. He had a little bit of upset, had an upset where he missed one of his races, he missed the hinds, and that kind of set him back a bit, so it took a long time to get him back together."

Right: Gstaad in the post parade. Winning jockey Christophe Soumillon said, "I heard it asked why I hadn't won a Breeders' Cup in 20 years, but it's like winning a British classic, you've got to have a proper horse. I was trying to ride like Ryan (Moore) did last year with Henri Matisse, it works well because I was 2 ˝ deep on the back straight the pace was strong and I just tried to make a little move to get a little closer to have an option so I could choose where we would come into the turn. Finally, we  came into the last turn, he was cruising and I knew he was doing everything well. When I came into the straight I knew it was game over."

Left: Second place finisher Stark Contrast in the post parade. Jockey Kazushi Kimura said, "He's been maintained really well by Michael (McCarthy) and everything worked out smooth. He showed tactical speed from the gate, and he was comfortable right behind the front runners. and he's a versatile horse. Before the top of the lane, I was trying to push to the outside, but they kept me contained, so I decided to jump inside. He finished upgraded very strong, unfortunate, the number 14 was already closing quickly."

Right: Third place finisher North Coast in the post parade. Trainer Joseph O'Brien said, "Huge run. Very proud of him. Dylan gave him a great ride. He looked to be traveling easy. Very proud of how he finished. He'll go home and point to next season."  Jockey Dylan McMonagle added, "A great run. The winner is obviously a very good horse so to take third was great. He'll be a lovely horse for next year."
