For 2025, the Breeders' Cup World Championships return to Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in San Diego County, California for the second year in a row. Pre-entries closed on Monday October 20 for all the races. Final entries closed on Monday October 27 when post positions were drawn in the paddock at Del Mar that afternoon. Below are links to the entrants for each race along with lots of other information.
The first 3 finishers in the 2024 Classic are back for a rematch: Sierra Leone, Fierceness, and Forever Young. Along with Sierra Leone (2024 Classic), a whopping 8 past Breeders’ Cup Champions will seek another victory: Citizen Bull (2024 Juvenile); Fierceness (2023 Juvenile) Full Serrano (2024 Dirt Mile); Nobals (2023 Turf Sprint) Rebel’s Romance (2022 and 2024 Turf); Straight No Chaser (2024 Sprint); and White Abarrio (2023 Classic)
“The incredible group of horses pre-entered for this year’s Breeders’ Cup reflects the unmatched quality and global prestige of the World Championships,” said Drew Fleming, President & CEO of Breeders’ Cup Limited. “The divisions are loaded with champions, classic winners, and international stars. We are deeply grateful to the owners, breeders, trainers, jockeys, and teams, whose dedication and care make it possible for these extraordinary Thoroughbreds to put on an incredible show. Our thanks also go to Del Mar Thoroughbred Club for their partnership, to our nominators for their vital support, and to the passionate fans and bettors whose enthusiasm continues to drive our sport forward. We can’t wait to deliver another unforgettable edition of the World Championships at Del Mar.”
The 42nd Breeders' Cup will have a total of 14 Championship races (all Grade 1) spread over two days of racing with $34 million in purse money on the line. Friday October 31st is billed as "Future Stars Friday" featuring all 5 Championship races for juveniles on the same card, starting with the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) and highlighted by the $2 million FanDuel Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). Saturday November 1st will have nine Grade 1 races for older horses headlined by the $6 million Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at 1 1/4 miles. Once again, the Classic will not be the finale, with the Mile, Dirt Mile, and Filly and Mare Turf running after the Classic. The Championships are being held at Del Mar for the fourth time, having hosted in 2017, 2021, and 2024 previously.
