Kicking off the World Championships, the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) featured a full field of 12 two-year-olds going 5 1/2 furlongs around one turn of the turf. Lowther Stakes (G2) winner Libertango was sent off as the 9-5 favorite off her second place finish in the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1). In to challenge her included 4-1 second choice Brickyard Belle, winner of the Matron Stakes (G3) and 11-2 third choice Harper's Corner, second in both the Spinaway (G2) and Matron.

Jockey Juan Hernandez sent 16-1 Ruiva to the lead down the backstretch and around the turn through fractions of 21.49 and 44.54 while pressed by Harper's Corner and stalked by 51-1 longest shot Hell of A Spin. Ruiva continued to lead to the 1/8 pole but tired badly as favorite Libertango, 6th early under Billy Loughnane, came out 5 wide for room and rallied to win going away by 1 1/4 lengths over Hell of A Spin in 1:02.64. It was a head back to Harper's Corner third, however David Egan aboard 7th place finisher 11-1 Force Noir claimed foul against Paco Lopez on Harper's Corner for interference. After review the stewards disqualified Harper's Corner from 3rd to 8th moving fourth place finisher 9-1 Mussab up to third.

Left: Libertango heads to the winner's circle. Winning trainer George Boughey, celebrating his first Breeders' Cup win, said, "It feels amazing. For me, it's huge. It's the pinnacle for us, traveling the horses around the world to win a Breeders' Cup is right at the top of it. She makes my job very easy. It was probably the most relaxed I've been going into a Group 1 ever. She shipped over here great, the guys on the ground here have done a super job and you can't do it without the people who put the team together. I'm delighted."

Right: Libertango heads out for the post parade. Winning jockey Billy Loughnane said, "I didn't realize I was going to be riding her until literally an hour ago. I've been sitting on her in all her work since her last run as well, and it's been a tough couple of weeks knowing that she was coming here as a very good chance. We had a fantastic gate, which was amazing. She broke good. I planned to get on the back of Moonrise. I thought then the filly would carry me into the race very well. On the turn in front of me, Oisin got a little bit tighter room. I'd have to watch it back to see exactly happened and comment on it."

Left: Second place finisher Hell of A Spin in the post parade. Trainer Adrian Keatley said,"Without winning we couldn't have wished for anything more. He's a real proper horse going into next year and he looks like a Commonwealth Cup horse at Royal Ascot where he won't have to take on Libertango. We're absolutely delighted with him so hopefully we get him home safe and sound and we've a serious horse to look forward next year." Jockey Mikey Sheehy added, "I always thought he was the type of horse that was made for America and he proved that today. The filly is really good. She's based in the UK and I know her and she's very good. Going around bend, he was moving well and thought I was in a great position but we were just beaten by a great filly.

Right: Third place finisher Mussab (moved up by disqualification from 4th) heads out for the post parade. David Egan aboard 7th place finisher 11-1 Force Noir claimed foul against Paco Lopez on Harper's Corner for interference at the 3/8 pole and the stewards agreed upon review.

Eighth placed Harper's Corner (finished third but disqualified for interference) steps onto the track from the tunnel. Jockey Paco Lopez said, "It was a perfect trip. Everyone is trying to claim foul all the time, but I don't think anything happened. I had the speed. I was second. Perfect trip. I waited, she ran very well, my filly."
