In to challenge her included 3-2 second choice Fully Subscribed, winner of the Personal Ensign (G1) and Spinster (G1), and 12-1 third choice Super Corredora, winner of the Zenyatta Stakes (G2).

Left: Nitrogen heads to the winner's circle. Winning trainer Mark Casse said, “She’s up there, she’s special. To be so good on the turf and the dirt is just amazing. She amazes me. I thought she would be a little closer to be honest. But I could see Jose ask her. It takes her a second to kind of kick in but she’s something. That’s her. She does that (drifts out) every race. I think she loves the crowd. That was one of the factors in the decision to go to the Distaff versus the Classic. We wanted to get her a Breeders’ Cup win and we’ll probably take a different path next year which will include going against some colts.”

Right: Nitrogen heads back to the barn after the race.

Nitrogen in the post parade. Winning jockey Jose Ortiz said, “She felt great. She broke well, let me put her in a good position, and she relaxed. When I asked her to go, she was full of run. I saw [Fully Subscribed] behind me at the 3/8 pole. I drifted out a little bit in the stretch. She has a tendency to do that. But it seemed like I was clear.”

Left: Second place finisher Fully Subscribed in the post parade. Trainer Chad Brown said, "It’s no secret (Nitrogen) lugs out and such, I just felt my filly has been winning races out in the center of the track going by horses in the right lane. I don’t want to get cute and cut the corner, then I get in a fight with a filly who’s way out in the middle of the track way away from me. Sometimes saying all the ground is a shorter way home, but sometimes your horse isn’t really reaching fifth gear, either."

Right: Third place finisher Measure in the post parade. Jockey Manny Franco said, “My filly was simply third best today. She ran a huge race. These are the top fillies in the country and I was happy with the way she ran.”

The field breaks from the gate for the Distaff. Terry Finley, owner of pacesetter and fourth place finisher Super Corredora said, “We didn’t know what to expect after that second start this year (sixth, beaten 40 lengths in the Santa Ysabel Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita). She has come a long way. She is going to have a great 4-year-old year. She kept trying. She got nosed out for third, but she was trying to be second. She was not going to beat the winner. It is what it is.”
