 Jose Ortiz celebrates aboard Magnitude after winning the Dubai World Cup.

The $12 million Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup (G1) celebrates its 30th renewal this year, and is a Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" qualifier in the Classic division. After several days of unusually wet weather, it was clear on World Cup day, with a daytime high of 27C (81F) dropping down to 23C (71F) for the feature. Despite the wet week the main track was rated fast and turf course good. A field of 9 went to post with Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) and Saudi Cup (G1) winner Forever Young sent off as the 3-5 favorite. In to challenge him included 7-2 second choice Magnitude, winner of the Razorback Handicap (G3), and 6-1 third choice Meydaan, winner of the Al Maktoum Classic (G1).

Jockey Jose Ortiz sent Magnitude to the front first time by and was pressed by Forever Young and stalked by Meydaan. In the stretch Magnitude contuinued to hold off Forever Young to prevail by 1 length in 2:04.38. It was another 2 3/4 lengths back to Meydaan third.

Magnitude in the winner's enclosure. Winning trainer Steve Asmussen said, "What an incredible win. We just wanted to let him to run his race from point A to point B. The horse is running with a lot of confidence and that gave us confidence. It unfolded just how we wanted it to."

We fly pretty early tomorrow so I'd rather wait and celebrate with my family and friends. Maybe we'll have a cookout."

Winning jockey Jose Ortiz said, "We left all the options open – if he jumps well we can go to the lead, if somebody jumps better than him, just sit off, maybe behind the speed. He didn't have a running start, but he jumped well and I knew it was time to go. I asked him to run and he was there for me."

Second place finisher and beaten favorite Forever Young on Wednesday morning during track works. Jockey Ryusei Sakai said, "Everything went the way we planned but the winner was good today."
