Left: Caravel in the winner's circle. Winning trainer Brad Cox said, "She was running back in 20 days, but had a race over the course. She was doing extremely, extremely well. She's filly that has had a hard time keeping on weight and since the end of the summer, she's really blossomed. We decided to take a swing and it worked out."
Right: The trophy presentation for the Turf Sprint. Winning owner Sheikh Fahad al Thani said, "Brad is the one who gave us a lot of confidence. She has been working really well. As he said working, she's been working as best as he's ever had her. That gave us a lot of confidence. Watching her in the morning gave us a lot of confidence. Having Tyler on board is amazing really. He is one of the most gifted jockeys I've seen and thankfully he's on our side and not against us. Any jockey, to be honest, that rides for us gets that instruction to do, once the gates open, whatever they feel is correct, they do." David Redvers, racing manager for Qatar Racing added, "A huge amount of credit to Fergus Galvin and the team at Hunter Valley. Marc Detampel has been a long-time partner and a great friend. There's nothing quite as much as fun as doing it with friends, and we're very lucky to have great friends, great resources with Sheikh Fahad. And it's all about the party now."
Left: Caravel heads out to the track. Winning jockey Tyler Gaffalione said, "I feel amazing. She broke alertly. No one really went, so I decided to take control of things. Coming into the stretch, she just kept finding more. She's a very solid filly. She shows up every time. She's trained by one of the best in the country, Brad Cox. He brings them over ready to fire."
Right: Caravel returns to the barn after the race. Sheikh Fahad al Thani added, "She's shown speed before she's versatile she can lead or sit off them. And after she broke that well today, there was one place to be and that's the lead. And thankfully she just kept going. And when the other horse came upside her she just found another few lengths, which is fantastic to see. we did anticipate Golden Pal to be up there. And it changed our game plan completely, really. I think the scenario that he wanted was Golden Pal in front and we were stalking him and then pouncing on him. But it's tough to be out there from gate to wire. And she's a tough filly to do that."
Left: Second place finisher Emaraaty Ana in the post parade. Adam Ryan, son and assistant to trainer Kevin Ryan said, "All credit to our traveling lad, Umar (Mohammed), who has been with him all week and has him perfect. We thought we were going to get there and it was a great race. I know he was a big price, but we couldn't have the horse in better condition. We had the right man on board in Ryan (Moore). Fair play to the winner. (Caravel) is obviously a very brave filly."
Right: Third place finisher Creative Force returns after the race. Trainer Charlie Appleby said, "He broke so well and Will (Buick) had a nice pitch, but Flotus came across on us and floated us back a bit. But, look, he's put up another solid performance and doesn't know how to run a bad race, this horse. We know he was doing his best work towards the end and that was always going to be the way, being a six-furlong horse. I'm delighted. Another solid run from him. Couldn't be happier with him."
Tenth place finisher and beaten favorite Golden Pal returns after the race. He broke last and was never able to recover from that. The Wesley Ward trainee has a record of 8 wins, 2 seconds, and 0 thirds in 13 starts, earning $1,825,131 for owners Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and Westerberg.
