Breeders' Cup World Championships Preview

For 2022, the Breeders' Cup World Championships return to Keeneland. Pre-entries closed on Monday October 24 for all the races and were released on October 26 with a total of 205 horses, including 45 from overseas, pre-entered for the 14 Championship races. Seven previous Breeders' Cup Champions are back to try for a repeat, including two-time Breeders' Cup Champion Golden Pal in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. Final entries closed on Monday October 31 and post positions where drawn in the afternoon at Rupp Arena. Below are links to the entries for each race along with lots of other information.

There are seven returning or former Breeders’ Cup Champions pre-entered: Aloha West, Ce Ce, Echo Zulu, Golden Pal, Life Is Good, Modern Games (IRE), and Order of Australia (IRE). 73 Grade/Group 1 winners are pre-entered including the undefeated Flightline, Whitney Stakes (G1) winner Life Is Good and Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Rich Strike in the $6 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1); Malathaat, Clairiere, and Nest in the $2 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1); and War Like Goddess in the $4 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1).

The 39th Breeders' Cup will have a total of 14 Championship races (all Grade 1) spread over two days of racing with $30 million in purse money on the line. Friday November 4th is billed as "Future Stars Friday" featuring all 5 Championship races for juveniles on the same card, starting with the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) and highlighted by the $2 million TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). Saturday November 5th will have nine Grade 1 races for older horses headlined by the $6 million Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at 1 1/4 miles. The Championships will be held at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky, for third time, the first in 2015 and the second in 2020 with only horsemen allowed due to Covid.

The Breeders' Cup will be televised on NBC, USA Network, and Peacock with the schedule shown below. All times are Eastern.

     Saturday, November 5, 3:30-6:00pm - Championship Saturday NBC and Peacock
