In to challenge him included 6-5 second choice Tuz, winner of the Mahab Al Shimaal (G3), the main local prep, and 14-1 third choice American Stage, second in the Mahab Al Shimaal.

Left: Dark Saffron heads to the winner's enclosure. Winning jockey Connor Beasley said, "He's got plenty of natural speed and it was probably a blessing being drawn out wide because I only had one option. We've got a good bunch of horses and to get a big winner like this on a night like this, it's just fantastic."

Left: The trophy presentation for the Golden Shaheen. Beasley added, "He's one of them, he's just kept improving and he was in up against good competition on the turf. He's got speed to burn and to do what he's just done is incredible. It's just a big relief. This is what it's all about."

Left: Second place finisher Nakatomi in the paddock before the race. Owner Dr. Jim Hay said, "He ran a phenomenal race. Wesley (Ward, trainer) has got him back to his best and next time we'll win it. As he passed me I thought he was going to win but he came out off the rail a little bit and the winner's a great horse, he stayed on really well. He's going back to the States and he'll spend the rest of the year there and head to the Breeders' Cup. What we do with him is up to Wesley. It's horse racing and it's a privilege to be here."
Right: Third place finisher and beaten favorite Tuz heads out to the track before the race. Trainer Bhupat Seemar said, "This is horse racing and these things happen," trainer Bhupat Seemar said. "Tactically they got the race on us, so it is how it is. They went fast and maybe we could have gone a bit faster, but the door wasn't open. We'll come back next year and see if we can do this again. He was doing everything right, it's just unfortunate circumstances. He's had a long season and he deserves a break. He doesn't owe us anything."
Eighth place finisher and beaten favorite Straight No Chaser heads out to the track before the race. Jockey John Velazquez said, "He jumped, I asked him but he didn't go," jockey John Velazquez said of his mount, who was clearly uncomfortable with the Meydan kickback. "That's not his style, his style is 'come and get him.' At least if he lays close he's fine, but he just didn't even do that." A postrace veterinary exam revealed he came back "mildly lame in the left foreleg."

The $1.5 million Azizi Developments Al Quoz Sprint (G1) is contested at 1200 meters (about 6 furlongs) on the turf straightaway at Meydan. A field of 11 went to post with Centenary Sprint (G1) and Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (G1) 3rd place finisher Howdeepisyourlove sent off as the 6-5 favorite. In to challenge him included 7-2 second choice West Acre, winner of the Blue Point Sprint (G2) and Nad al Sheba Sprint (G3), and 9-2 third choice Believing, 3rd in the Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp (G1).
Jockey Kosei Miura sent Win Carnelian to the lead down the chute while pressed by Regional and Marbaan and stalked by Audience. Win Carnelian continued to lead to deep stretch but Believing under William Buick came through late to get up by 1/2 a length in 1:07.77, just 27/100 second off the course record. It was another 1/4 length back to Regional third, while favorite Howdeepisyourlove was pulled up at the 1/4 pole by jockey James McDonald after clipping heels with eventual 6th place finisher 15-1 Marbaan. He was vanned to the equine hospital and later euthanized.

Left: Believing in the winner's enclosure. Winning jockey William Buick said, "George (Boughey, trainer) was really bullish about her before the race, her prep has been faultless. This is a lucky spare ride for me. Ryan [Moore] was meant to ride her, obviously he was in Australia this morning, I stepped in. The filly was very tough. She really deserved to to get that Group 1. She showed there what she's all about, she really knuckled down. Fair play to George in his team for having her in tip-top shape for tonight."

Left: The trophy presentation for the Al Quoz Sprint. Henry Morshead, assistant to winning trainer George Boughey said, ""Her preparation into this has been very strong and her gate-work has been good all winter, which was a concern coming from Del Mar last time. But God she's tough, she really sticks her head down, she's a real testament to the hard work everyone puts in at home. It's hugely special and Coolmore are unbelievably straightforward to deal with. We're hugely honoured to have her in the yard this year as a five-year-old."
Right: Believing heads out to the track before the race.
Left: Second place finisher Win Carnelian heads out to the track. Jockey Kosei Miura said, "His career best performance and it was my responsibility to win. He ran his best and I am so proud to challenge this race with the team."
Right: Third place finisher Regional heads back to the barn. Jockey Callum Rodriguez said, "Good run, he's a horse that wears his heart on his sleeve and he's done just that tonight. First run of the year, hopefully he can take a step forward for it. I was sort of the meat in the sandwich, I was the horse between the two horses competing for the win and my horse really stuck his head out and was brave."
Beaten favorite (did not finish) Howdeepisyourlove heads out to the track before the race. The stewards reported, "Near the 500m clipped the hind leg of another runner resulting in the gelding becoming unbalanced, as a result being eased out of the race and the rider dismounting. When questioned, [James McDonald] advised Howdeepisyourlove was travelling well until the 500m, where it clipped the hind leg of Marbaan. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have subluxated its left fore leg."
