The 21th anniversary of the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships was held at first time host track Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. The weather was hot and sunny which made for nice photography conditions. Here is a selection of various photos of the track and events like the opening ceremonies.

The grandstand and the crowds from the infield just before the Turf. The event was completely sold out with official attendance at 53,717.

All the jockeys to ride in the Breeders' Cup were introduced as part of the opening ceremonies. Here they are all lined up waiting their turn to wave to the crowd.

Jockey Javier Castellano is introduced during the opening ceremonies. Little did he know that a few hours later he would win his first Breeders' Cup race on his first and only Breeders' Cup mount, Ghostzapper in the Classic.

After all the speeches and the introduction of the jockeys, "God Bless America" and the National Anthem were sung while a gigantic flag was unfurled on the track by the National Guards and the US and Texas state flags were displayed.

The horses break from the Guinness starting gate in the Juvenile Fillies.

Some of the flower wreaths for the winners on display before the races.
