Thursday morning two days before the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs was busy and the track was listed as fast. Conditions were overcast during training hours with the temperature in the low 70's. Trainer Bob Baffert scratched Rodriguez from the Derby, allowing also-eligible Baeza to draw into the field. Baffert said, "We had to take Rodriguez out of the Derby; nothing serious. He had a little foot issue after his last work. We'll just need a few days to get him right and then we are going to the Preakness."
- Sovereignty rules in the 2025 Kentucky Derby (G1) - Saturday at Churchill Downs, Sovereignty came six wide in the mud to win the Kentucky Derby (G1) by 1 1/2 lengths over favorite Journalism with Baeza third. Get the results, chart, and photos here.

Kentucky Derby

American Promise – galloped 1 1/2 miles under Tayja Smith for trainer D. Wayne Lukas during the 7:15-7:30 training window for Kentucky Derby and Oaks horses. "We thought we would probably be back (rather quickly)," said cooowner John Bellinger, who arrived in Louisville Tuesday from San Antonio. "We knew we had three good colts and we have Perfect Force and Innovator in the Pat Day Mile (GII) on Saturday plus American Promise in the Derby.
"Wayne has done a wonderful job."
Chunk of Gold – galloped at 7:15 a.m. with trainer Ethan West in the saddle. Following Chunk of Gold's training session, West had some special visitors come to his barn – WWE Superstars Maxxine Dupri and Natayla. "Of course I have to pick a horse with the name ‘gold' in it," Dupri said. "He's my Derby horse."
Citizen Bull – galloped 1 1/4 miles under exercise rider Humberto Gomez.
East Avenue - galloped during the 7:15-7:30 training window under Stephen Dolan for trainer Brendan Walsh.
Final Gambit – galloped at 7:15 under Joel Osorio for trainer Brad Cox.

Flying Mohawk – galloped at 7:15 under Maurilio Garcia aboard with jockey Joe Ramos and co-owner Jayson Werth (right) looking on.

Journalism – put in a solid 1 1/4 mile gallop with exercise rider Marc Witkowski. Jockey Umberto Rispoli said, "I try to treat it just like I do all other races. At the end of the day it is just another race."
Luxor Cafe – warmed up in the mile chute and then at 7:15 moved to the main track and galloped under Naoto Suzuki for trainer Noriyuki Hori.
Neoequos – galloped during the 7:15-7:30 training window for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.
Render Judgment – galloped during the 7:15-7:30 training window under Robby Albarado for trainer Kenny McPeek.
Sandman – jogged a mile under Froylan Garcia for trainer Mark Casse during the 7:15-7:30 training window.
Sovereignty – galloped 1 1/4 mile under exercise rider Javier Cardona. Trainer Bill Mott said, "We'll take him around the paddock a few times this morning, then gallop him around the track. Yesterday we took him to the paddock in the afternoon and he did OK. He got a little hot, but nothing special. We gave him some extra for lunch and he ate it all up. He ate up last night, too. The routine is good and so is he."
Kentucky Oaks
Ballerina d'Oro galloped at 7:15 for trainer Chad Brown.
Five G was scratched from the Oaks after trainer George Weaver was not satisfied with how she was training coming into the race.
Fondly galloped 1 1/2 mile under William Humphrey during the 7:15-7:30 training period for trainer Graham Motion. "I'd like to see a nice, clean trip," said Motion. "I would like to see her a little more forwardly placed but I am leaving it all up to Irad."
Quickick galloped 1 1/2 mile under Rafael Rustrian during the 7:15-7:30 training window for trainer Tom Amoss. Amoss said, "I would like to see a sub :23 first quarter from La Cara."

Dubai World Cup winner Hit Show at the barn of trainer Brad Cox. Cox said, "He's screaming to get back. It's cool to see a horse go over there and bring them back and show so much energy."
