Sovereignty walks the shedrow after galloping on Wednesday morning

Wednesday morning three days before the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs was busy and the track was listed as fast. Conditions were overcast during training hours with the temperature in the mid 60's. All timed works have been completed as of Tuesday morning with routine gallops as well as schooling in the paddock and starting gate continuing.

Kentucky Derby

horse racinghorse racing American Promise – galloped 1 3/8 miles under Tayja Smith for trainer D. Wayne Lukas during the 7:15-7:30 training window for Derby and Oaks entrants.

horse racing Baeza – schooled in the paddock, galloped 1 1/4 miles, then schooled in the starting gate. "We're still hoping for a gift from the gods," said the colt's conditioner, John Shirreffs, as he ambled alongside his well-bred son of the young stallion McKinzie heading trackside for the 7:15 to 7:30 special training segment for Derby and Oaks horses at Churchill Downs. "What else are you going to do?" Baeza and crew have until 9 a.m. Friday morning (scratch time for the Derby) to get "lucky" and get to run. If that doesn't happen, it'll be on to the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore.

horse racing Citizen Bull – galloped 1 1/2 miles under Eric Garcia. Trainer Bob Baffert said, "As for Citizen Bull in the one hole, we're going to have to use him early. We're going to tell him to get out of there like he just robbed a bank."

horse racing Coal Battle – had a walk day for trainer Lonnie Briley. The son of Coal Front is scheduled to return to the track Thursday morning.

horse racing Final Gambit – galloped about 1 1/2 miles Wednesday morning with Joel Osorio aboard for trainer Brad Cox. "He just feels so good when he gallops," said Witkowski. "He's got a beautiful stride. I've never been on one that moves like him. Sweet – that's the word for him."

horse racing Journalism – had another good morning at Churchill Downs Wednesday, turning in a strong gallop under exercise rider Marc Witkowski during the special 7:15 training period as trainer Michael McCarthy looked on from trackside.

horse racinghorse racing Neoequos – galloped at 7:15 then schooled at the gate for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. "All good, we're ready," Joseph said.

horse racing Owen Almighty – galloped 1 1/2 mile under Antonio Orellana for trainer Brian Lynch during the 7:15-7:30 training window. Winner of the Tampa Bay Derby (G3), Owen Almighty never has raced on an off track. "I hope it is good and fair for everybody," Lynch said. "His breeding (by Speightstown) indicates he should handle it and we hope that works in our favor."

horse racing Publisher – galloped 1 1/2 miles under exercise rider Roberto Howell. "Derby week is so much fun," trainer Steve Asmussen said. "It's enjoyable to take it all in."

horse racing Sandman – galloped 1 1/2 mile under Froylan Garcia for trainer Mark Casse during the 7:15-7:30 training window. A son of Tapit out of a Distorted Humor mare, Sandman never has raced on an off track.

horse racinghorse racing Sovereignty – walked around the paddock and then galloped 1 1/2 miles with exercise rider Javier Cardona.

horse racing Tiztastic – galloped 1 1/2 miles under exercise rider Carlos Rosas. "Derby week is so much fun," trainer Steve Asmussen said. "It's enjoyable to take it all in."


Kentucky Oaks

horse racingBallerina d'Oro galloped at 7:15 for trainer Chad Brown. "She's doing really well since she got here to Churchill," Brown said. "We just need a little racing luck to go our way.

horse racingBless the Broken galloped 1 1/4 mile under Genis Bracho during the 7:15-7:30 training window for trainer Will Walden. "Let it rain." Walden said. "Her pedigree has Uncle Mo and Tapit in it and she always has kind of shown an affinity for it. I feel that whatever the conditions are, our filly is ready and prepared."

horse racinghorse racingFondly galloped 1 1/2 miles under William Humphrey for trainer Graham Motion during the 7:15-7:30 training window. Undefeated in two starts, Fondly has not raced on an off track.

horse racinghorse racingGood Cheer the 6-5 morning-line favorite for Kentucky Oaks 151, galloped at 7:15 under Katie Tolbert for trainer Brad Cox. "All good," Cox said. "We're just trying to keep everyone happy for the next couple days."

horse racingQuickick visited the starting gate and galloped 1 1/2 mile under Rafael Rustrian for trainer Tom Amoss. Quickick has not raced on an off track.

horse racingSimply Joking galloped 1 1/2 miles.
