2010 Kentucky Derby Contenders

ENTRIES ARE HERE!

Here is the latest look at the list of top contenders for the 2010 Kentucky Derby to be run on May 1st at Churchill Downs. The prep races are pretty much over now and the horses who can make the field have been narrowed down by their graded earnings. There are still some question marks by a few of the top horses as to whether they will go or not and now there is even a filly that is under consideration. Entries will be taken on April 28 which will give the final answer to who will be in the 2010 Kentucky Derby field.

Below is my first list of contenders with their trainer, jockey, and dosage index. Be sure to click the link on each horse's name to view full info, stats, and a photo where available. Jockey assignments are based on who has been riding so far and can change drastically as we get farther into the Triple Crown preps. The Experimental Free Handicap was released on January 28, and there are 16 dual qualifiers this year. An asterisk (*) by the name in the list below indicates a dual qualifier. The early Triple Crown nominations, which cost $600, closed on January 16 with 366 nominations. Late nominations, which cost $6000, closed on March 27.

Note: Eskendereya is out as of 4/25 due to an injury.

• 2010 Triple Crown Late Nominations - Only six more thoroughbreds were made eligible for the three Triple Crown races for a fee of $6000 by the late nomination deadline. Any not nominated now will have to pay a huge supplement fee to enter. Check out the list here.

• Kentucky Derby Future Wager - There will again be three future wager pools for the Derby on February 12-14, March 5-7, and March 26-28. There will be a single pool for the Oaks on March 5-7.
• Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 3 - The third and final pool for the 2010 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed and with so many upsets this weekend the field is favorite at 5-2 for the first time ever in Pool 3. 2-year-old champion Lookin at Lucky is a narrow second choice also at 5-2. • Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 2 - Wagering is now closed for Pool 2 and once again the field was the favorite at 3-1 with Eskendereya next at 5-1. In the Oaks Future, Blind Luck was the favorite at 4-1. Get the horses, final odds, and free past performances here.
