Pool One of the 2010 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. As expected the field wound up the favorite at only 3-2. Lookin at Lucky, last year's Champion 2-year-old male, closed as the second choice at 8-1, but the Bob Baffert trainee is not expected to make his first start this year until the San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita on March 13. Buddy's Saint, undefeated in 3 starts for trainer Bruce Levine, is the third choice at 10-1. He will make his 2010 debut in the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park on February 20. The total amount wagered during Pool One was $466,048, down 2.5% from last year, however the pool was only open Friday to Sunday unlike past years when it opened on Thursday. $385,995 was bet to win while just $80,053 went into the exacta pool.
The Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 2 is scheduled for March 5-7 and will also include the single Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool. The third and final pool is set for March 26-28. The 136th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 1. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.

You may also want to participate in Churchill Downs' Kentucky Derby fantasy stable contest the Road to the Roses Fantasy Challenge. The contest will open for entries soon and the first scoring races are on February 14th.
