2008 Kentucky Derby Future WagerPool One of the 2010 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. As expected the field wound up the favorite at only 3-2. Lookin at Lucky, last year's Champion 2-year-old male, closed as the second choice at 8-1, but the Bob Baffert trainee is not expected to make his first start this year until the San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita on March 13. Buddy's Saint, undefeated in 3 starts for trainer Bruce Levine, is the third choice at 10-1. He will make his 2010 debut in the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park on February 20. The total amount wagered during Pool One was $466,048, down 2.5% from last year, however the pool was only open Friday to Sunday unlike past years when it opened on Thursday. $385,995 was bet to win while just $80,053 went into the exacta pool.
The Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 2 is scheduled for March 5-7 and will also include the single Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool. The third and final pool is set for March 26-28. The 136th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 1. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.
