Take Charge Lady is favorite for the 2002 Kentucky Oaks

RESULTS

The fillies always get a bit neglected as the boys take centerstage with the Derby, but they will get the spotlight on Friday in the 128th running of the Kentucky Oaks. Ten fillies were entered including Take Charge Lady who has yet to lose against the girls this year. Sadly, Tempera who would have been favored here had to be put down this weekend due to a sudden attack of collitis and laminitis.

Update: Bella Bellucci has been scratched due to bad blood work results Wednesday morning.

Past performances for the race are available for free online from the Daily Racing Form here. The races will be televised on ESPN2 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. EDT with post time for the Oaks at 5:43 p.m. I will be there so check back Friday night for photos and results.

The race is 1 1/8 miles with a purse of $500,000 and all the fillies will carry 121 lbs.

Also on the card with the Oaks are the Louisville Breeders' Cup (1 1/16 miles), the Aegon Turf Sprint Stakes (5f turf) and the Crown Royal American Turf Stakes (1 1/16 miles turf). Complete entries for the card are available here from Equibase.
