Sky Terrace winner of the Derby Trial.

Sky Terrace slogged home on the sloppy Churchill Downs surface to win the Derby Trial over Cashel Castle and Ide Be Spencers in 1:36.87. The sloppy conditions caused the favorite Mayakovsky, his entry mate Shah Jehan, and Stephentown who was also favored. This left the role of favorite to the undefeated Cashel Castle, but he never seemed to get into the wet surface and could only manage second by 2 lengths. Sky Terrace took the lead at the start and never looked back at odds of 7.40-1. Clergy was expected to run well on the off track but never was better than fourth, beaten 21 lengths.

It is not likely that anyone from this race will go on to the Derby, but Sky Terrace might have enough graded earnings now to make the field if they decide to supplement him. He is not Triple Crown nominated so it would take a fee of $150,000 to make him eligible for the Derby.
