The highlight race of the day is the Hong Kong Cup (G1), a 2000-meter (about 1 1/4 mile) trip around two turns, which goes off at 5:00PM local time (4:00AM ET). Defending champion and local hope Vengeance of Rain is back, as is last year’s runner-up Pride. 2004 winner Alexander Goldrun who was 8th last year, will make her third start in the Cup.
Ouija Board, Cartier Horse of the Year for 2006 and winner of the 2004 and 2006 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, will make the final start in her career in the Hong Kong Vase (G1), run over the classic distance of 2400 meters (about 1 1/2 miles). This race will kick off the day‘s stakes action at 2:00PM local time (1:00AM ET). The Lord Derby color bearer drew post 2 in the field of 10, which also includes Canadian International winner Collier Hill breaking from the far outside. The Aga Khan has two entrants here, Kastoria and Shamdala.
The Hong Kong Sprint (G1), which goes to post at 3:10PM (2:10AM ET) drew fourteen entrants and will be contested over its new distance of 1200 meters (about 6 furlongs) around one turn. Hong Kong’s popular Silent Witness returns, but clearly he has lost a step since the 16-race winning streak which began his career. He takes on 13 other hopefuls including Prix de l’Abbaye winner Desert Lord shipping in from England.
The Hong Kong Mile (G1) at 4:20PM (3:20AM ET) includes America’s best hope on the day, as Richard Dutrow Jr. trainee Rebel Rebel ships in from New York and gets regular rider Edgar Prado and takes on Italy's only entry of the day, Ramonti.
Past performances are available for all the races in PDF or Word format here. These are not traditional North American type past performances, but you should be able to understand them pretty well.
