Updated: 4/27/2024
All the prep races are over now and the entries have been drawn for the 150th Kentucky Derby (G1) on Saturday May 4th. A field of 22 was entered for this $5 million classic with 20 starters and two also-eligibles. Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) and Florida Derby (G1) winner Fierceness is the 5-2 morning line favorite, but he drew post position 17, which no horse has ever won the Kentucky Derby from yet. Regular rider John Velazquez retains the mount for trainer Todd Pletcher. Risen Star (G2) and Blue Grass (G1), winner Sierra Leone is the second choice at 3-1 and he drew post two for trainer Chad Brown and regular rider Tyler Gaffalione. Louisiana Derby (G2) winner Catching Freedom is the 8-1 third choice from post 4, with Flavien Prat in the irons for trainer Brad Cox. The rest of the field is at double digit morning line odds.
