2016 Preakness Entries

Updated: 05/18/2016

Nyquist lived up to his undefeated status, winning the 2016 Kentucky Derby for win number 8, and now he will go on on to the Preakness Stakes on May 21 to see if he can win the second jewel of the Triple Crown. He was entered as part of a field of 11 on Wednesday and will break from post 3 as the prohibitive 3-5 favorite. Regular rider Mario Gutierrez will ride again for trainer Doug O'Neill and owner Paul Reddam. Santa Anita Derby winner and Kentucky Derby runner-up Exaggerator is the second choice at 3-1. Kent Desormeaux will be aboard out of post 5 for trainer Keith Desormeaux and owner Big Chief Racing. Stradivari, a newcomer to the Triple Crown wars, drew post 11 as the third choice at 8-1. He won his last 2 starts by open lengths in allowance company and makes his stakes debut here for trainer Todd Pletcher and owners John Gunther, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith.

The race will be televised live on NBC Saturday afternoon starting at 4pm. You can get free past performances here from BRISnet.com (look for Nyquist).
