Preakness Tuesday Photos

Several of the Preakness horses and Black-Eyed Susan fillies arrived at Pimlico on a cloudy Tuesday afternoon, including Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit, and they made several rounds of the stakes barn shedrow. Late in the afternoon, the post position draw was held for the Preakness Stakes and a field of 10 was entered.

Here are photos of 7 Preakness horses and 4 Black-Eyed Susan fillies from Tuesday. Click on the small one to see the larger version.

Concert Tour jogged 1 mile clockwise at 8AM after arriving on Monday. He worked 5f in 1:00.40 on Sunday at Churchill Downs. Assistant trainer Jimmy Barnes said, "Everyone jogged today. We had a long travel day yesterday, but they all handled the trip very well. We're up here early, it's just Tuesday so I gave them a light jog day today. We'll gallop everything tomorrow."
Crowded Trade arrived by van from Belmont Park. Trainer Chad Brown said, "No major complaints. Crowded I thought drew well. I preferred him to be inside (stablemate) Risk Taking so at least that is accomplished."
Keepmeinmind arrived by van from Churchill Downs then drew post 2 as a 15-1 longshot. Trainer Robertino Diodoro said, "I like (post 2). I think with his [closing] running style, the post doesn't matter a whole bunch. But at the same time, at least we don't have to worry about getting hung out in the middle of the racetrack, which can sometimes happen with an outside post. So I'm more than happy with the '2.'"
Medina Spirit jogged 1 mile clockwise at 7:40AM after arriving on Monday. Assistant trainer Jimmy Barnes said, "Everyone jogged today. We had a long travel day yesterday, but they all handled the trip very well. We're up here early, it's just Tuesday so I gave them a light jog day today. We'll gallop everything tomorrow."
Midnight Bourbon arrived by van from Churchill Downs. Trainer Steve Asmussen said, "With the spacing of his races previously, absolutely," Asmussen said, referencing New Orleans' Derby prep series. "It is only two weeks (from the Derby), but you're backing up in distance. Midnight Bourbon was very consistent coming into the Derby. He wasn't exactly in position to run his best race that day, by the break, traffic, different reasons."
Risk Taking arrived by van from Belmont Park. Trainer Chad Brown said, "Risk Taking is out there a little bit, but there looks like there is enough speed in the race that, hopefully, the field gets strung out a little before the first turn and he can drop in. Just let Jose (Ortiz) work out his trip from there".
Unbridled Honor arrived by van from Belmont Park. After drawing post 8, trainer Todd Pletcher said, "I'm pleased with the 8."
Adventuring is the 4-1 second choice in the Black-Eyed Susan. Trainer Brad Cox said, "Obviously, she's very well bred and we're hopeful that she'll be able to handle the mile and an eighth. She certainly appears that she can. She broke her maiden in an off the turf race on the dirt and performed extremely well. She was able to get the job done on the synthetic and she works well enough on the dirt to give us the confidence to try a graded stake on the dirt. We're looking forward getting her up there."
Beautiful Gift galloped early on Tuesday. She goes in the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes on Friday as the 9-5 morning line favorite from the outside post 10. "She's run well," Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert said. "I was going to run her in the Kentucky Oaks, but it came up way too tough. That's one of the toughest Kentucky Oaks I've seen. I didn't want to put her through that. I said, "We'll wait for the Black-Eyed Susan. You try to spot your horses, give them a chance where they have a chance to win."
Iced Latte is 8-1 morning line in the Black-Eyed Susan from post 6. "It seemed like she handled it OK," trainer Todd Pletcher said. "I don't think it is indicative of her quality. We were impressed by her maiden win. She's always trained very forward and I liked the way she breezed [the other] morning."
Lady Traveler drew post 5 for the Black-Eyed Susan as a 15-1 outsider. Tom Bellhouse, COO of owner West Point Thoroughbreds said, "Last time, even though she didn't hit the board, she ran a nice number and really showed improvement. In the middle of the race she started making a big move and, unfortunately, the horse that was in front of her when she started to make the move kind of drifted out and got in her way a little and kind of broke her momentum. She runs in snippets. She's like the darling of the workout report guys. She works out great, everybody's in love with her, she looks beautiful and she's finicky. She doesn't tell you when she's really going to run her race or not. We're due. We're ready to have some fun."
