Seabiscuit vs. War Admiral
Match Race Re-enactment

Date: 05/18/03

The weather didn't cooperate but the two human and two equine actors provided a perfect ending to a reenactment of the famous Pimlico Special match race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral. Once again Seabiscuit won by four lengths. Pimlico-based jockey Walter Cullum played George Woolf on Grapeshot who was Seabiscuit for a day. Frank Douglas was Charles Kurtsinger on Lord Roland who played War Admiral. Both horses are trained by Ann Merryman.

Below is a selection of photos from the re-enactment.

Walter Cullum and Grapeshot as George Woolf and Seabiscuit. I am not sure, but I think that is trainer Ann Merryman as the groom.

Frank Douglas and Lord Roland as Charles Kurtsinger and War Admiral.

Both competitors in the post parade.

First time past the stands with Seabiscuit in the lead.

At the finish with Seabiscuit leading by 4 lengths.

Both competitors return to be unsaddled.
