Notes: Unraced as a two-year-old, Hoppertunity broke his maiden in his second start on January 30 at Santa Anita. He made his stakes debut in the Risen Star at the Fair Grounds where he was fourth. He followed that up at Oaklawn with a win in the Rebel (G2), then shipped to Santa Anita to finish second to California Chrome in the Santa Anita Derby (G1). He missed the Kentucky Derby an was off until October 29 when he was 2nd in an allowance at Santa Anita, then shipped to Churchill Downs to win the Clark Handicap (G1).
He won his 2015 debut in the San Pasqual (G2) then was 3rd in the San Antonio (G2) and was off for 4 months. He came back at Churchill to finish 3rd in the Stephen Foster (G1) then back to Santa Anita to finish 2nd in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita (G1). He had two straight 4th place finishes at Del Mar in the San Diego Handicap (G2) and the Pacific Classic (G1). Then he had 3 straight 4th place finishes in the Awesome Again (G1) at Santa Anita, the Fayette (G2) at Keeneland, and the Clark Handicap (G1) at Churchill Downs.
He was 3rd in the San Pasqual (G2) for his 2016 debut then won the San Antonio (G2) at Santa Anita. He went to Meydan to finish 3rd in the Dubai World Cup (G1) then back to the US for two 4th place finishes in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita (G1) and the Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar. He shipped over to Belmont Park for his final prep, winning the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1).
