Here is the latest look at the list of top contenders for the 2014 Kentucky Derby to be run on May 3th at Churchill Downs. The prep races are over so no more chances to get points in the new point system to determine which horses can get in the race instead of the old graded earnings list. With only a couple of weeks left before the Derby, the only movement now will be if horses drop out or they add to their graded earnings if they are tied in the points.
Below is my latest list of contenders with their trainer, jockey, and dosage index and dual qualifiers have been marked with a * by their dosage index. Each horse names links to a profile with lots of info and a photo. Jockey assignments are starting to firm up now but a few are still yet to be announced. The early Triple Crown nominations, which cost $600, closed in January with 414 horses, and late nominations, which cost $6000, closed in late March with 10 additional horses. Those are the last chance to be eligible without a high supplement fee, but with rule changes this year late supplements will have the same priority as the nominees if anyone wants to pay the $200,000 fee.
