Pool Three of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. The mutuel field of all other 3-year-olds closed as the favorite at 3-1 over Holy Bull Stakes (G3) winner Cairo Prince at 9-1. Tied for third choice at 11-1 are Remsen Stakes (G2) winner Honor Code and Fountain of Youth (G2) third place finisher Top Billing. A total of $334,326 was wagered with $239,389 in the win pool and $94,937 in the exacta pool.
In the only Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool for 2014, which ran concurrent with Derby pool 3 but closed 30 minutes later, Rachel Alexandra Stakes (G3) winner Untapable was the favorite at 5-1 by a narrow margin over the field also at 5-1 but with a slightly higher will-pay. Second choice at 8-1 was Silverbulletday Stakes winner Unbridled Forever. A total of $81,234 was wagered in the Oaks Future with $54,571 in the win pool and $26.663 in the exacta pool.
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 1 was held November 27-30 and Pool 2 was held February 6-8. Pool 4, the final pool, is set for March 27-29. The 140th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 3.
