Kentucky Derby Contenders
Pool Two of the 2019 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. As expected the field wound up the favorite at 5-2. Second choice at 5-1 is Game Winner, undefeated winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1), followed by Bob Baffert-trained stablemate and Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) winner Improbable, and Hidden Scroll, winner of his debut at Gulfstream by 14 lengths on January 26, both at odds of 15-2 ($17.60 payout) The total amount wagered during Pool Two was $533,977 which included $134,980 in exacta wagers. This is a slight (2.4%) increase over the $521,650 bet in Pool 2 last year.
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 1 was held November 23-26. Pool 3 is scheduled for March 8-10 and will also include the single Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool. The fourth and final pool is set for April 5-7. The 145th running of the Kentucky Derby, with its new $3 million purse, is scheduled for Saturday, May 4. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.
