2016 Kentucky Derby Future WagerPool Three of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. Fountain of Youth (G2) winner Mohaymen closed as the favorite at 7-2 with the mutuel field of all other 3-year-olds second choice at 5-1. Undefeated Champion 2-year-old colt Nyquist was third choice at 7-1. A total of $328,108 was wagered with $220,331 in the win pool and $107,777 in the exacta pool.
In the only Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool for 2016, which ran concurrent with Derby pool 3, Champion 2-year-old filly Songbird was a strong favorite at 3-5 with unbeated Davona Dale Stakes (G2) winner Cathryn Sophia second choice at 5-1. Third choice at 12-1 was the mutuel field of all other 3-year-old fillies. A total of $104,002 was wagered in the Oaks Future with $71,079 in the win pool and $32,922 in the exacta pool.
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 1 was held November 26-28 and Pool 2 was held February 12-14. Pool 4, the final pool, is set for April 1-3. The 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 7.
