2016 Kentucky Derby Future WagerPool One of the 2016 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. As expected the field wound up the favorite at only 3-5. Unbeaten Nyquist, who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Keeneland last out, was the lowest odds individual horse at 9-1 followed by Mohaymen at 11-1, who won the Remsen Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct on Saturday. The total amount wagered during Pool One was $141,925.50 which is far below the amounts usually bet in the pools closer to Derby time and far less than last year's November pool. Also, $32,756.00 was bet into the exacta pool. You can view the exacta will-pays here. There was also a new Sire Future Wager pool this year where you can wager on the sire of the next Derby winner. In this pool, the field was also favored at 2-1 with Tapit next at 7-1. Only $26,751.00 was wagered into this pool.
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 2 is scheduled for February 12-14. Pool 3 is scheduled for March 11-13 and will also include the single Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool. The fourth and final poolis set for April 1-3. The 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 7. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.
