Pool Two of the 2011 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. As expected, juvenile champion Uncle Mo was the slight 3-1 favorite after his 4-length win in the Timely Writer at Gulfstream in his 3-year-old debut. The mutuel field is the 7-2 second choice over 11-1 Dialed In. The total amount wagered during Pool One was $376,699, up 6% from last year. $279,534 was bet to win while just $97,165 went into the exacta pool.
In the only Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool for 2011, which ran concurrent with Derby pool 2 but closed 30 minutes later, Kathmanblu was the 7-2 favorite over 7-1 Zazu and Joyful Victory at almost 8-1, followed by R Heat Lightning at 9-1 and the mutuel field at almost 10-1 A total of $92,902 was wagered in the Oaks Future, $63,804 to win and $29,098 in the exacta pool.
The Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 1 was held on February 18-20 and the third and final pool is set for April 1-3. The 137th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 7.
