Pool One of the 2012 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. As expected the field wound up the favorite at only 2-1. Uncle Mo, last year's Champion 2-year-old male, closed as the second choice at 7-2, but the Todd Pletcher trainee is not expected to make his first start this year until March 12 at either Gulfstream Park or Tampa Bay Downs. Dialed In was the second choice at 8-1 with To Honor and Serve next at 10-1. The total amount wagered during Pool One was $592,492 which is up over 27% from last year. Of that, $480,375 was bet to win while $112,117 went into the exacta pool.
The Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 2 is scheduled for March 11-13 and will also include the single Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool. The third and final pool is set for April 1-3. The 137th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 7. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.
