With the possibility of a Triple Crown up for grabs, the atmosphere at the Belmont was electric as 103,222 people came hoping to watch history made. Although War Emblem disappointed, it was still a great day. Here is a selection of photos to show you what it was like.

War Emblem had lots of supporters on hand to cheer him on.

Magic Weisner had his fan club as well.

Displays of all the Triple Crown winner's silks were set up in the infield with a special memorial for the recently deceased Seattle Slew.

A race was also held in Seattle Slew's honor and his jockey Jean Cruguet and owner Mrs. Karen Taylor presented the trophy.

Penny Chenery, the owner of Riva Ridge and Secretariat, presented the trophy for the Riva Ridge Breeders' Cup Stakes.

The All-Star Buglers performed the National Anthem as well as the call to the post for each race. This year the team was Sam Grossman of NYRA, Mark O'Keeffe of Laurel, Mike Firios of The Meadowlands and Richard Garrick of Philadelphia Park.

Broadway star Linda Eder performed "God Bless America"

During the song, a team of skydivers put on a show and landed in the infield.

NTRA Charities New York Heroes Fund presented a check for $250,000 to the Silver Shield Foundation which helps the families of officers killed in the line of duty.

This life size fiberglass horse was being autographed by all the jockeys and celebrities at the Belmont and will be auctioned off on eBay with the proceeds going to the disabled jockeys fund. You can check the bid here.

Local, national, and racing celebrities were out in force for the big event. Here are Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys, New York TV chef Bobby Flay, and Caroline Hine the owner Skip Away.

The statue of Secretariat in the paddock was dressed up with real carnations for the special day.

Last but not least, the permanent Belmont Trophy which was on display next to the winner's circle.
