Quite a few of the Breeders' Cup World Championship contenders stabled at Belmont Park were out on the track Sunday. Many of these will probably stay at Belmont until they have to be at Monmouth Park two days before the races. The majority of these horses below are trained by Todd Pletcher who plans to ship them down on Monmouth Park on Tuesday. "Everything went very smoothly," Pletcher told a group of reporters outside of his barn on a summery Sunday morning at Belmont Park. "Everybody went really well."

All the turf works were on the inner course around the dogs as the turf was soft. Click the small picture to see a larger version.

Any Given Saturday - breezed 5 furlongs on the training track in 1:02.12. "Physically, Any Given Saturday has changed a lot," Pletcher said. "We thought he was a good horse before the Dwyer. But he got beat in the Wood Memorial and then was eighth in the Kentucky Derby, where I believe, he hurt his foot. He has been spectacular ever since."

Argentina - breezed 6 furlongs on the soft inner turf around the dogs in 1:17.04, the only work at that distance for the day.

Discreet Cat - worked 5 furlongs handily on the main track in 57.46, getting a bullet for the fastest work of the day. "His work this morning was fast, and probably a little faster than we expected, but we are taking it as a positive sign," said Rick Mettee, assistant to trainer Saeed bin Suroor. "The track was extraordinarily fast, from what I gather from talking to the clockers, and he was well within himself. When horses are that good, they will sometimes work fast. We're looking at this as a sign that he is ready and he still wants to run."

English Channel - breezed 5 furlongs on the inner turf in 1:03.55.

Funny Cide - although he is not a Breeders' Cup horse this year, he has been in the past. Here he is in his new career as pony horse for trainer Barclay Tagg after being retired earlier this year.

Ginger Punch - breezed 4 furlongs on the main track in 48.14.

Honey Ryder and Host - worked together on the inner turf and both breezed 5 furlongs in 1:03.41.

Icy Atlantic - breezed 4 furlongs on the soft inner turf around the dogs in 50.71.

Indian Blessing - worked 5 furlongs handily on the main track in 58.42, second fastest for the day.

Indian Vale - breezed 5 furlongs on the training track in 1:01.69.

Lawyer Ron - breezed 5 furlongs on the training track in 1:01.26. "Lawyer Ron got on the bridle early, but he was manageable," Pletcher said. "He is a very good work horse. If you allowed him to, he would go extra fast. Any Given Saturday was aggressive, but that's him. We got what we wanted from both of them."

Nobiz Like Shobiz - galloped on the main track

Octave - breezed 5 furlongs on the training track in 1:00.68, third fastest for the day.

Panty Raid - breezed 4 furlongs on the training track in 49.10.

The Green Monkey - even though he isn't a Breeders' Cup horse (and may never be), he is a bit infamous for being the highest priced 2-year-old in training ever sold at auction at $16 million. Since he has yet to do much in two tries on the dirt, they seem to be trying him out on the turf now, as he breezed 4 furlongs on the soft inner turf in 50.88.

The Leopard - breezed 4 furlongs on the soft inner turf in 50.64, second fastest for the day, with jockey Edgar Prado aboard. Prado only started riding again last week after recovering from a broken ankle suffered at Saratoga on September 1. "I feel good and I am fit," Prado said. "I've been going to the jockeys' room, then to physical therapy and then to the gym. I was hoping to get back in time for the Breeders' Cup, but I think a lot of these horses are already taken."

Wait a While - breezed 5 furlongs on the inner turf in 1:04.11.
