The Kentucky Derby is in the record books and the only horse with a chance to be the next Triple Crown winner is now Super Saver. Can he do it or will someone else win the Preakness? Here is the latest list of horses planning to start in the Preakness. Right now, it looks like several of the Derby starters are planning to try the Preakness, but there are a few new faces and some are back who dropped out of the Derby to wait for the Preakness. A maximum of 14 horses are allowed to start in the Preakness, and it is looking like we may get there this year.
Unlike last year with Rachel Alexandra, the connections of Kentucky Oaks winner Blind Luck do not intend to send their filly against the boys in the Preakness and it does not appear that any other fillies will be entered. Ice Box, who finished a fast-closing second in the Derby for trainer Nick Zito is expected to skip the Preakness and train up to the Belmont Stakes instead, but the horses that finished third through sixth, including beaten favorite Lookin at Lucky, are possible, as well as well-beaten Jackson Bend and Conveyance. Awesome Act, who finished 19th in the Derby, came back with an injury and will miss the rest of the Triple Crown. Among the "new shooters" who skipped the Derby include Aikenite, Schoolyard Dreams, Caracortado, Turf Melody, and First Dude.
