2017 Kentucky Derby Future WagerPool One of the 2017 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. As expected the field wound up the favorite at only 6-5. Classic Empire, who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile last out, was the lowest odds individual horse at 6-1 followed by Mastery at 10-1, who won the Bob Hope Stakes at Del Mar last out. The total amount wagered during Pool One was $221,801 which is 27% increas over last year's November pool. $162,870 was bet into the win pool and $58,931 was bet into the exacta pool. You can view the exacta will-pays here. There was also the Sire Future Wager pool this year where you can wager on the sire of the next Derby winner. In this pool, the field was also favored at 7-2 with Pioneerof the Nile, the sire of Classic Empire, as the top individual sire at odds of 5-1. $44,150 was bet in this pool, which was a 26.3% increase from last year’s $34,960.
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 2 is scheduled for January 27-29. Pool 3 is scheduled for February 24-26 and will also include the single Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool. The fourth and final pool is set for March 31-April 2. The 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 6. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.
