Pool Three of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. Depsite finishing third in the Florida Derby on Saturday, Union Rags closed as the 9-2 favorite over the mutuel field at 6-1 with Gotham Stakes winner Hansen and San Felipe Stakes winner Creative Cause both at 8-1. There was a total of $427,374 bet in Pool 3, of which $303,043 was to win and $124,304 was in the exacta.
The Future Wager pools normally close at 6 p.m., but this time wagering will be extended by 30 minutes to allow fans to consider the results of the $1 million Louisiana Derby (G2) at Fair Grounds, which has a scheduled Sunday post time of 5:55 p.m.
The Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 1 was held on February 10-12 and Pool 2 was held on March 2-4. The 138th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 5. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.
