The longest race on Dubai World Cup day is the $5 million Nakheel Dubai Sheema Classic (G1), contested at 2400 meters (about 1 1/2 miles) over the turf course at Nad al Sheba. Fifteen were originally entered but Collier Hill was scratched from the race, leaving 14 in the field. English Derby winner Sir Percy was sent off as the 4-1 favorite over Japanese hope Pop Rock and Breeders' Cup Turf winner Red Rocks, each going off at 9-2 in the international betting pool. Todd Pletcher had 2 in this event, 20-1 Honey Ryder and 22-1 Host.

Vengeance of Rain wins the Dubai Sheema Classic over Oracle West
Godolphin horse and 14-1 shot Best Alibi took the lead right away under Frankie Dettori, who slowed the pace down on the front end while stalked by 9-1 Quijani and favorite Sir Percy. 9-1 Vengeance of Rain sat in fourth taking a ground saving trip along the rail around the first two turns. Entering the stretch, Best Alibi continued to lead as the pace quickened, but Vengeance of Rain was just hitting his best stride and was gaining on the leaders. Best Alibi tired at the 3/16 pole allowing Vengeance of Rain to easily take over the lead. Sir Percy put in a late effort to stay in contention but was no match for the Hong Kong hero, as Vengeance of Rain pulled away to a 1 1/4 length victory over late-running 33-1 Oracle West. 13-2 Youmzain closed well to nose out Sir Percy in a photo finish to take third.

Third place finisher Youmzain in the paddock before the race. His jockey Richard Hughes said, "He has run a great race, but maybe a little more pace on early in the race would have helped us."
