Left: The trophy presentation to winning owner J. Paul Reddam and his wife Zillah. Reddam said, "That is a good start to what could be a good evening and hopefully year. He is an improving type and will hopefully continue to progress."
Right: Trophy presentation to winning jockey Garrett Gomez. He said, "He ran a wonderful race today. A
mile is right up his alley and he showed it. We were really confident going into the race and the race went absolutely perfectly for him. My idea was to get him relaxed but he was a little keen and he getting there from the off. He gets the mile no problem and stays further and is all heart and when I asked him he gave his all. This victory will hopefully take him to the Breeders' Cup."
Spring at Last heads to the winner's circle. Leondro Mora, assistant to winning trainer Doug O'Neill said, "I am pretty thrilled it has finally happened and we expected him to run well. He likes the warm and over here it is like the Californian summertime which suited him well. He can go 1 1/4 as well as a mile and he's such a cool horse. We will give him a couple of months to build himself up and the boss will decide, but the Hollywood Gold Cup would be the sort of race he could run in next."
Second place finisher Parole Board in the post parade. His jockey Ted Durcan said, "My horse has run a fantastic race, he came to win it, but the American horse was just too strong today. Maybe a mile is as far as my fellow wants to go."
Third place finisher Mullins Bay before the race. His jockey Weichong Marwing said, "I was very happy with my horse he has run very well. No excuses."
The first race on Dubai World Cup day is the $250,000 Emaar Dubai Kahayla Classic (G1), the world's richest race for Purebred Arabians. Madjani became the second three-time winner of the Kahayla, with a perfect stalking trip to win by 1 1/4 lengths over Charh in a time of 2:14.72 for the 2000 meter (about 1 1/4 mile) trip. Winning trainer Gillian Duffield said, "I was worried when the others came at him, but he dug really deep. That's what he's all about and I love him!" Winning jockey Richard Hills added, "We were worried coming into the race because he was injured when he stepped on a golf ball and I didn't think he would find more in the final stages of the race but he did, he is the best."
