World Championships
Breeders' Cup Workouts

Date: 10/27/2015

Tuesday morning was rainy and the main track was sloppy at Keeneland with temperatures in the low 50's. Because of the slop, they skipped the morning renovation break so after sunrise we had about 90 minutes for gallops. Not too many horses came out on the main track and went to the training track instead, so we will try to get over there tomorrow in addition to the main track. Lots of horses are arriving this afternoon, including American Pharoah, so hopefully tomorrow will be busier, although it is supposed to rain straight through until tomorrow evening.

Shortly after the workouts were finished, we heard the news that Untapable was scratched from the Distaff due to a fever. This means the also-eligible Peace and War will now draw into the field in post 14.

Here are photos for 31 of the horses on the track Tuesday morning. Click the small picture to see a larger version.

horse racing breeders cup Smooth Roller jogged on the sloppy main track once around the wrong way with the pony, and goes in the Classic on Saturday. Trainer Victor Garcia said, "We had to stop with him 3 times. He had injuries. You just have to stop and give them time. He showed talent from the beginning. He's doing great. He just jogged today, I don't want to take chances on the wet track."
horse racing breeders cup Red Vine drew the rail in the Dirt Mile. Regular rider Joel Rosario gets the call for trainer Christophe Clement. He is winless since the Majestic Light in July, finishing second in the Salvator Mile (G3) and Kelso (G2) and third in the Pacific Classic (G1).
horse racing breeders cup Valid comes to Keeneland off wins in the Philip Iselin (G3) and Groomstick Stakes. Jockey Nik Juarez will be in the irons for the Dirt Mile out of post 10 for trainer Marcus Vitali.
horse racing breeders cup Calamity Kate goes to the Distaff on Friday. Trainer Kelly Breen said, "If Beholder was in the race we weren't coming. Without her in there we thought we have just as good a shot as anybody. My horse is training fantastic. She galloped today over the muddy track. Edgar Prado is confident in what he has underneath him. She'll be close enough to the front end to be in a good stalking spot."
horse racing breeders cup Kiss to Remember drew post 10 in the Filly and Mare Sprint and is 30-1 on the morning line. Julien Leparoux will be in the irons for trainer Martin Wolfson.
horse racing breeders cup Merry Meadow drew post 13 in the Filly and Mare Sprint. Joe Bravo will be aboard the 20-1 shot for trainer Mark Hennig. She is unraced since 7th in the Ballerina (G1) at Saratoga.
horse racing breeders cup Room for Me drew post 12 in the Filly and Mare Sprint at morning line odds of 15-1. Victor Espinoza rides for trainer David Jacobson. She was 4th in the Gallant Bloom (G2) last out.
horse racing breeders cup Stonetastic drew post 8 in the Filly and Mare Sprint. Regular rider Paco Lopez will be aboard the 5-1 shot for trainer Kelly Breen. She was 4th in this event last year.
horse racing breeders cup Stephanie's Kitten (entered in the Filly and Mare Turf) and the other 11 Chad Brown trained horses all galloped on the main track Tuesday. Brown said, "We have a good group here, it's going to be tough. Most of my races are on the turf and it seems like the Europeans brought some of their best horses this year."
horse racing breeders cup Watsdachances, stablemate of Stephanie's Kitten in the Filly and Mare Turf, was also out on the sloppy track. Trainer Chad Brown added, "I'm not going to buy into that (the Europeans) can run their B races and beat our horses. If my horses run their A races and they don't, or have trouble, I can see my horses winning."
horse racing breeders cup Isotherm switches back to dirt in the Juvenile after winning two races on turf including the Pilgrim (G3) at Belmont. The George Weaver trainee will have regular rider Jose Lezcano aboard, drawing post 11.
horse racing breeders cup Tale of S'avall drew post 8 in the Juvenile. Cornelio Velasquez gets the call for trainer Barclay Tagg aboard the 30-1 shot. He was a distant 5th in the Champagne (G1) last out.
horse racing breeders cup Catch a Glimpse won the Natalma (G2) at Woodbine earning a trip to the Juvenile Fillies Turf. The Mark Casse trainee drew post 4 as a 5-1 shot on the morning line and will have jockey Florent Geroux in the irons.
horse racing breeders cup Last Waltz was imported from Ireland and joins the barn of Chad Brown for the Juvenile Fillies Turf. She comes here off a 3rd place finish in the Park Stakes (G3) at Curragh. New jockey Javier Castellano will be in the irons out of post 14, at 20-1 morning line.
horse racing breeders cup Ruby Notion won her last 2 starts by open lengths, the Colleen and the Selima, and drew post 5 for the Juvenile Fillies Turf. The 12-1 shot will have jockey Rafael Hernandez aboard for trainer Wesley Ward from post 5.
horse racing breeders cup Conquest Daddyo represents Ernie Semersky and Dory Newell's popular Conquest Stables in the Juvenile Turf. Winner of the Summer (G2) at Woodbine, he will break from post 10 under jockey Joe Bravo for trainer Mark Casse.
horse racing breeders cup Dressed in Hermes won the Zuma Beach Stakes at Santa Anita. He drew the rail in the Juvenile Turf, and gets regular rider Gary Stevens for trainer Janet Armstrong.
horse racing breeders cup Ray's the Bar broke his maiden at first asking at Ascot in England before being transferred to America where he was a close 3rd in the Pilgrim (G3) at Belmont. Jockey Javier Castellano gets the Juvenile Turf call for trainer Chad Brown.
horse racing breeders cup Bawina drew post 10 in the Filly and Mare Turf. Olivier Peslier gets the call aboard the 15-1 shot for trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias. She was 6th in the Sun Chariot (G1) at Newmarket last out.
horse racing breeders cup Grand Arch went out for a jog at 8:30AM under exercise rider Louis Rushlow in preparation for the Mile. Trainer Brian Lynch said, "We jogged him because the track is sloppy, we didn't get too creative. We let him stand awhile (with stable pony Casey and rider Erin Cotterill) to take it all in."
horse racing breeders cup Impassable drew post 5 in the Mile. She arrives in the United States with solid credentials, having won three straight races topped by the Group 2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein at Longchamp. Maxime Guyon will be on the 8-1 shot for trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias.
horse racing breeders cup Holy Lute is the second also-eligible in the Turf Sprint. If he draws in Martin Pedroza will ride for trainer James Cassidy.
horse racing breeders cup Ivan Fallunovalot goes in the Sprint and is a 30-1 longshot on the morning line. The Texas-bred comes here off consecutive wins in the DMV Sprint and the Remington Park Sprint both at Remington. Regular jockey Calvin Borel will be aboard the Tom Howard trainee who drew the 6 post.
horse racing breeders cup Private Zone drew post 13 in the Sprint. Trainer Jorge Navarro said, "I'd rather be outside than inside. He's an old classy horse and has plenty of speed to get out of there. I also think going in last will help him. He's ready."
horse racing breeders cup Shining Copper galloped on the main track in preparation for the Turf. Trainer Chad Brown said, "I'm not going to buy into that (the Europeans) can run their B races and beat our horses. If my horses run their A races and they don't, or have trouble, I can see my horses winning."
horse racing breeders cup Twilight Eclipse jogged twice around under Dan Stupp, assistant to trainer Tom Albertrani. Stupp said of the Turf contender (in the race for the 3rd straight year), "He's had tough trips and a little bit of bad luck along the way but the great thing about him is that he always shows. We always get a good run out of him and he always tries his hardest."
horse racing breeders cup Joe Franklin drew post 6 in the Turf Sprint. Jose Ortiz rides the 30-1 shot for David Jacobson. He won 2 allowance races coming into the Cup.
horse racing breeders cup Mongolian Saturday drew post 14 in the Turf Sprint. Florent Geroux rides the 15-1 shot for trainer Enebish Ganbat. He comes here off second place finishes in the Turf Monster (G3) and Woodford (G3)

horse racing breeders cup Undrafted drew post 3 in the Turf Sprint, and the 4-1 second choice will have Frankie Dettori (seen here aboard for the Tuesday morning gallop) in the irons Saturday. He was 3rd in this race last year and won the Diamond Jubilee (G1) at Royal Ascot in June.
