"Turf Champions Day" at Woodbine also included two Grade 1 "Win and You're In" races for 2-year-olds on the turf, each contested at 1 mile around 1 turn of the recently renovated E.P. Taylor Turf Course. Conditions were typical for "Woodbine Turf Champions Day" with partly cloudy skies and a daytime high temperature of 24.7 C (76.5 F), with the turf course rated firm (GoingStick 11.1).
A field of 8 two-year-olds (after 4 scratches) contested the $500,000 bet365 Summer Stakes (G1) looking for automatic entry into the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Keeneland on October 30. Superlative Stakes (G2) winner Al Hudaiba was sent off as the 3-5 favorite off his close third in the Vintage Stakes (G2) at Goodwood. In to challenge him included 3-1 second choice Oscar off his debut win on August 8 at Saratoga, and 13-2 third choice Big Money Man, second in the Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage at Deauville.

But like you said, he's a horse with plenty of ability, and to be fair to the horse, you know he's only two, and he's been out here all week. He hasn't put a foot wrong. He's been really grown up. It's just that little bit when he goes for it, for whatever reason, he does that."

Jockey Fraser Aebly sent Lamirada to the lead through fractions of 23.09, 46.13, and 1:10.20 while pressed by 12-1 Cattrall and stalked by 47-1 Nicki Knows Best and Embouteillage. Turning for home Lamirada tired as Voyager, 6th early, came out 5 wide to sweep to the lead through 7f in 1:22.13. Kept to task by Javier Castellano, Voyager held off late-running 13-2 fourth choice De La Renta to win by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:35.06. It was a head back to Embouteillage third, while favored pacesetter Lamirata faded to seventh beaten 2 1/2 lengths.

It was very impressive the way she did it today - very professional, behind the speed. It seemed to me a little fast pace, and she was covered up. I kept track of the pacemaker horses. Turning for home, I put her in daylight and she took off and finished really well."

Run between the Natalma and the Summer Stakes, a field of 8 older horses contested the $175,000 Branded Cities Vigil Stakes (G3), a 7 furlong sprint on the Tapeta main track. Bold Venture (G3) third place finisher Notorious Gangster was sent off as the 8-5 favorite over 7-4 second choice Piper's Factor, second in the King Edward (G2), and 5-1 third choice Mansetti, last year's King's Plate winner and Canadian Horse of the Year but 6th in the Seagram Cup (G3) last out.
Jockey Gaddiel Martinez sent 13-1 Heavy Pour to the lead out of the chute through fractions of 22.32 and 44.68 while pressed by Piper's Factor and stalked by 13-2 fourth choice Souped Up. Into the lane Heavy Pour continued to lead through 3/4 in 1:09.12, and held off late-running Mansetti to win by a length in 1:22.06. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to 35-1 Wagstaff third, while favorite Notorious Gangster was 6th early and failed to rally finishing 7th beaten 9 3/4 lengths.
