Panther Strike acts up before the 2008 Natalma Stakes

Date: 09/14/2008

It was a very skittish group of juvenile fillies in the 2008 Natalma Stakes at Woodbine, but worst of all was 12-1 shot Panther Strike. She reared up and flipped on her back as she entered the paddock, dangerously close to the steel railings on the outside, then ran loose briefly until she was caught, ironically by trainer Greg De Gannes of eventual winner C Karma, when she reared up again. After this incident she was returned to the indoor saddling area and was allowed to race, finishing 8th. Here is a sequence of photos showing the whole incident. The first one won the Thoroughbred Bloggers Alliance Photo Contest.

Up and over she goes!

She rolled over completely before getting up.

Then she took off for a romp through the walking ring.

My husband was on the other side of the walking ring and caught her as she ran past. Then you can see her finally slowing down as Greg de Gannes starts to go after her.

She is finally captured. Left is my view of the grab and right is my husband's shot of it.
