Pool One of the 2013 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. As expected the field wound up the favorite at only 8-5. Allowance winner Verrazano, undefeated in his only two lifetime starts, is the second choice at 11-1. Flashback, undefeated winner of the Robert Lewis Stakes (G2) last out, was the third choice at 12-1. The total amount wagered during Pool One was $621,493, which is down from the record pool last year of $631,304. Of that, $481,632 was bet to win while $139,861 went into the exacta pool.
The Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 2 is scheduled for March 1-3 and will also include the single Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool. The third and final pool is set for March 22-24. The 139th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 4. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.
