Wednesday Kentucky Derby Workouts

Wednesday morning was overcast as bad weather moved in and a bit more chilly than Tuesday at Churchill Downs but the track was fast after the renovation break. Lots of the Kentucky Derby and Oaks horses came out for their special private workout session at 8:30 after the break, although some had come out earlier in the day. The two horses not on the grounds, Oscar Nominated and Laoban, both arrived at Churchill Downs today and are expected to go out on the track tomorrow. Below are photos for 18 Derby horses and 6 Oaks fillies from this morning on the track with comments for each.

Brody's Cause galloped 1 1/2 miles Wednesday morning at Churchill Downs and stood in the starting gate during his training session.
Creator returned to the track Wednesday morning for the first time since he worked Monday and galloped 1 1/2 miles under exercise rider Abel Flores.
Danzing Candy galloped, visited the starting gate and walked through the paddock, with Rolando Quinones in the irons.
Destin galloped this morning under exercise rider Hector Ramos.
Exaggerator galloped 1 1/2 miles and stood in the starting gate with exercise rider Peedy Landry aboard. Trainer Keith Desormeaux said, "He’s settled in. It’s feeling like home here now"
Gun Runner was fine while he was out until it was time to go back to the barn and then he protested. He returned to the track Wednesday morning for the first time since he worked Monday and galloped a mile and a half under exercise rider Carlos Rosas.
Majesto galloped once around the Churchill Downs oval Wednesday morning.
Mo Tom with exercise rider Mario Garcia aboard, galloped a mile and a half Wednesday for trainer Tom Amoss after the renovation break. Also, Mo Tom schooled in the starting gate, and he was scheduled to school in the paddock in the afternoon.
Mohaymen visited the Churchill Downs paddock and galloped 1 ½ miles Wednesday morning.
Mor Spirit accompanied by assistant trainer Jimmy Barnes aboard Smokey, the stable pony, returned to the track two days after his final work. He galloped 1 ½ miles under exercise rider George Alvarez, while trainer Bob Baffert watched from just beside the five-furlong track gap.
My Man Sam galloped 1 3/8 miles Wednesday during the special 8:30 a.m. training time with Daniel Bernardini aboard.
Outwork was watched by owner Mike Repole as he galloped this morning under exercise rider Ovel Merida.
Shagaf galloped 1 3/8 miles Wednesday during the special 8:30 a.m. training time with Gian Cueva aboard.
Suddenbreakingnws, accompanied by trainer Donnie Von Hemel, went to the track during the special 8:30 training time and galloped one mile under regular rider Ramiro Gorostieta. He also stood in the starting gate.
Tom's Ready, with exercise rider Emerson Chavez aboard, galloped a mile and a half Wednesday after the renovation break for trainer Dallas Stewart.
Trojan Nation galloped 1 1/8 miles under exercise rider Andy Durnin.
Whitmore went to the track with a workmate Wednesday, jogging one mile and galloping one mile with Laura Moquett on board. Trainer Ron Moquett explained that the workmate helps the Pleasantly Perfect gelding stay relaxed on the track.
Cherry Wine is currently the second also-eligible so will need two defections to make the field. He galloped 1 1/2 miles Wednesday morning at Churchill Downs. Trainer Dale Romans said if he doesn't get in, he will go on to the Preakness Stakes.
Kentucky Oaks Fillies Cathryn Sophia put on a little show for onlookers as she was approaching the gap to exit the track following a routine gallop Wednesday. With exercise rider Jerry Ortega in the saddle, the John Servis-trained filly spun around a few times, displaying a reluctance to proceed off the track. She finally cooperated when Tyler Servis, the trainer’s son and assistant, took hold of her head. “That’s her; she didn’t want to leave the track,” the elder Servis said. “I was thinking about jogging her tomorrow, but I don’t think I will get away with that, so we’ll probably gallop.”
Go Maggie Go galloped 1 ½ miles Wednesday morning at Churchill Downs.
Land Over Sea continued to move forward toward her date in Friday’s $1-million Kentucky Oaks (GI) with a gallop of a mile and three-eighths under Jonny Garcia during the special Derby/Oaks training period at the track starting at 8:30.
Mo d'Amour galloped 1 1/4 miles under exercise rider Amy Mullen.
Mokat jogged two miles instead of galloping as she had been doing on her recent visits to the track.
Venus Valentine galloped a mile and a half after the renovation break Wednesday under exercise ricer Maurice Sanchez. Also, trainer Tom Amoss planned to send her to the paddock for schooling in the afternoon.
