2006 Belmont Entries

Date: 06/07/2006

Results are here

A field of 12 has been entered for the 138th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday June 10. With both Barbaro and Bernardini out, there are several new faces in this one and no clear cut favorite. The morning line choice is Kentucky Derby runner-up Bluegrass Cat at 3-1 with Peter Pan winner Sunriver next at 4-1 and Derby third place Steppenwolfer at 9-2.

Both top choices are trainer by Todd Pletcher and Bluegrass Cat will be back with regular jockey John Velazquez who just returned from the injury that kept him out of the Derby. "Both horses' styles will put them in the first tier, I think," Pletcher said. "We'll probably be stalking High Finance with Bluegrass Cat and Sunriver might be a little bit behind him."

Be sure to click the link on each horse's name to view full info, stats, and a photo where available. More info about the new contenders should be coming this week.
