2003 Belmont Entries

RESULTS HERE!

A field of siz has been entered for the 135th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday June 7, 2003. Headlining the group is of course Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide who will attempt to become racing's 12th Triple Crown winner. Six rivals were expected, but the last minute defection of Best Minister due to a lung infection left only five to take on Funny Cide. The main challenges are expected to come from Derby runner-up Empire Maker and Lone Star Derby winner Dynever, a newcomer to the Triple Crown series, but don't discount Illinois Derby winner Ten Most Wanted.

In addition to the Belmont, there are four other graded stakes on the card and a guaranteed $500,000 Pick 4 will be offered on races 8-11, plus a guaranteed $1 million Pick 6 on races 6-11. Due to the small field size, there will be no superfecta wagering on the Belmont. All of the stakes action will be telecast starting on ESPN at 3pm EDT then over to NBC at 5:30pm EDT. Please note that the Belmont post time has been pushed back to 6:38pm EDT and the NBC broadcast will run from 5:30 to 7:00pm in order to avoid a schedule conflict with arena football. Sunset at Belmont will be at 8:23pm, so hopefully it won't be too dark yet but the weather forecast is currently calling for cloudy with a chance of thundershowers and temperatures in the 70's.
