Wednesday morning at Santa Anita Park was clear and warmer than earlier, as the horses continued their preparations for the Breeders' Cup World Championships. The main track again was fast and the turf was firm, but few runners actually got on it. The last European horses will finally clear quarantine tomorrow morning, which includes all the Aidan O'Brien runners.
Here are photos for 28 of the horses from this moring on the track or in the barns. Click the small picture to see a larger version. Most of the horses for today are different from yesterday, with only a few repeats.

Game On Dude galloped on the main track in preparation for the Classic. Trainer Bob Baffert said, "I called Joe Torre (co-owner) the other day after ‘Dude' worked so well.He was in a meeting about umpires and he had to call me back. But when he did, he was really fired up. He's into this horse. If Game On Dude was a human, he'd be just like Joe – kind and classy. What a gentleman and nice guy he is. Joe's low-key, but he's really excited about this horse."

Mucho Macho Man galloped 1 1/2 miles and then schooled in the paddock under the supervision of trainer Kathy Ritvo. Finn Green, stable manager for owner Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, said, "Kathy's done a great job. She's a good horsewoman, a very, very good horsewoman. She pays attention to detail. She knows her horses. She's on his legs every day. She put the bandages on his legs this morning. I think she's one of the most under-rated trainers around."

Flat Out galloped on the main track. He finished third in the Classic last year, ahead of Ron the Greek in fourth. Trainer Bill Mott said that his horses are under the radar, adding "It's a great field. Good, solid horses. It's a lot of the same horses that were in here last year. It's great that those horses can stick around and be back for more."

Paynter galloped on the main track. Trainer Bob Baffert believes the amazing comeback horse will be "right there" at the finish of the 1 1/4 mile Classic.

Ron the Greek went to the paddock and stood at the gate in preparation for the Classic. Trainer Bill Mott said, "He has been such a good servant for us and what a wonderful horse to be around. He's just the kindest, nicest horse. He's kind of a barn favorite. He doesn't owe us anything. Neither horse owes us anything. Whatever they do and win on Saturday it's all a bonus."

Royal Delta galloped on the main track and then schooled in the paddock with stablemate Close Hatches. Trainee Bill Mott said of his Distaffers, "I don't think I'm running a horse that doesn't deserve to run. Both fillies deserve to run and have their chance at it. Whatever happens, happens on the day. Both have earned their way in here. It's a championship day and – you know what? – at the end of the day will the best horse win? Well, the winner is going to be who the winner is. Hopefully they'll get a clean trip and a fair chance."

Beholder galloped 1 1/4 miles and then toured the paddock in preparation for the Distaff. Trainer Richard Mandella said, "I shut her down with the idea of having her ready for this (Breeders' Cup)." Asked if Beholder would race next year, he added, "That's going to be up to the boss (B. Wayne Hughes of Spendthrift Farm). I'll tell you though, I wouldn't mind. You might break a thousand yearlings and not come up with one like her. We might be able to try some different things with her, too. I might want to try her on the grass. I think she'd like it. You have lots of options with a horse like her."

The Fugue galloped on the turf under regular jockey William Buick, who gets the call in the Turf. Trainer John Gosden said, "She's traveled well, and everything has gone well with her preparation. She's fresh and I'm happy with her. Yes, I can tell you there was a longish debate on the subject (of competing against males)."

Tale of a Champion jogged then galloped 5f under trainer Kristin Mulhall in preparation for the Turf. Mulhall said, "We bought him over the summer specifically for the downhill sprint, which we knew would be a tough assignment. The more he's trained he has shown that he wanted to go longer distances so we put him in this race this year."

Twilight Eclipse jogged on the main track in preparation for the Turf. He is the current world record holder at the 1 1/2 mile distance of the Turf off his 2:22 3/5 tally in the Pan American Stakes at Gulfstream Park in March. Josh Flores, assistant to trainer Tom Albertrani said, He (Twilight Eclipse) had a long flight and they had to work around a storm along the way, but he shipped well and ate right up. He's showing us some good life this morning, so it looks like all is well."

Emollient galloped on the main track and schooled in the paddock in preparation for the Filly and Mare Turf for trainer Bill Mott. In winning the Ashland, the American Oaks and the Spinster, Emollient has shown a versatile running style in which she has been on the lead, stalking and able to come from far off the pace. Owner Juddmonte Farm has won the Filly and Mare Turf three times: with Banks Hill in 2001, Intercontinental in 2005, and Midday in 2009.

Za Approval jogged once around and walked through the paddock under assistant trainer Christophe Lorieul in preparation for the Mile. Lorieul, assistant to Christophe Clement, said, He got over the track really good this morning. It's easy to tell that he really likes this kind of weather and he trains better in it. We think he's better at the mile and 1 1/8 is probably stretching him out a little bit. I know he won the other day at that distance, but the Mile has got the pace scenario that I think is good for him. As he gets older, the mile is probably his best distance."

Secret Circle, winner of the 2011 Juvenile Sprint, was a strong galloper for Bob Baffert Wednesday morning. He made a winning start Oct. 14 at Santa Anita after being on the shelf for 18 months. Wednesday Baffert was asked what registered highest with him about the horse right now. "I forgot how fast he was," the conditioner quipped.

Starship Truffles arrived without incident after shipping from trainer Marty Wolfson's Gulfstream Park base and jogged 1 mile on the main track on Wednesday morning in preparation for the Filly and Mare Sprint. "She shipped very well and she got over the surface fine," said Raja Malek, who is supervising her care for Marty Wolfson. "We're not going to school in the paddock or at the gate and will just gallop up to the race."

She's a Tiger galloped 1 1/2 miles Wednesday morning on her way to Saturday's Juvenile Fillies. Trainer Jeff Bonde said, "She's training as good as a horse can. The keys to the car are in Gary's (Stevens) hands. As a trainer, you don't want to tie a jockey's hands. You have to let him run the race the way it comes up."

Ontology galloped 1 1/4 miles on the training track in preparation for the Juvenile Turf. "Just a routine gallop like he does there every day," trainer Simon Callaghan said. "Just keeping him happy and ticking over to go into the race in good shape, which he seems to be at the moment."

Colonel Joan was out on th main track Wednesday. She goes next in the Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Dancing House galloped 1 1/4 miles and schooled in the starting gate in preparation for the Juvenile Fillies Turf. Dancing House displayed an affinity for the turf in the her last start, the Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont, when she closed strongly through the lane to be third behind Testa Rossi.

Granny Mc's Kitten galloped on the main track and schooled in the paddock in preparation for the Juvenile Fillies Turf, in company with the rest of trainer Chad Brown's Cup entrants.

Blueskiesnrainbows galloped 1 1/2 miles on Santa Anita's main track Wednesday as he moved one day closer to his Friday test in the Marathon. With all the serious work done, all that remains for the son of English Channel is some Thursday morning exercise and a schooling session in the paddock Thursday afternoon, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said.

Old Time Hockey galloped on the main track in preparation for the Marathon. Winless in eight starts since taking the La Jolla Handicap at 1 1/16m on the turf at Del Mar in August 2012, the 4-year-old son of Smarty Jones will make his first start on the dirt since a maiden special weight effort in February 2012 at Gulfstream Park.
