The first graded stakes of the 2022 Woodbine Thoroughbred meeting is the $150,000 Whimsical Stakes (G3) for older fillies and mares sprinting 6 furlongs on the Tapeta main track. Conditions were excellent for early May in Southern Ontario, with sunny skies and a race time temperature of 16C (61F). Last year's winner Boardroom was sent off as the 11-10 favorite in the field of 7, unraced since winning the Seaway Stakes (G3) in August. In to challenge her included 7-2 second choice Dreaming of Drew, winner of the Long Branch Stakes on opening day April 16, and 5-1 third choice Artie's Princess, unraced since finishing fifth in last year's Whimsical.

Left: Our Secret Agent in the winner's circle. Winning jockey Kazushi Kimura said, "I was already feeling like today was going be a very tough race. Maybe, I'm more surprised today. She's best at the [longer] distance, the six furlong and a half. Today, maybe it's too short [of a distance] but, at the beginning she was quite smooth to get the good position and she was just keeping fit [at the end]."

Kimura added, "I was thinking that Luis' (Contreras) horse, Boardroom, and Artie's Princess, for sure were going to show some speed, and Gary's (Boulanger) horse too. But, at the break, I didn't push her much, just [enough] to see if I could get a position. I didn't feel any pressure from the outside, so it was so easy for her."
