Trainer:Albert Stall Jr. Jockey:Jeremy Rose Foaling Date: 3-29-2006 Pedigree: Sky Mesa - Minery by Forty Niner Dosage Profile: 9-3-9-0-3 Dosage Index/CD: 2.20 0.63 *dual qualifier* 2008 Record: 6 Starts: 3 - 1 - 0, $408,584 Best Beyer Figure: 91 Note: Last year, he broke his maiden first out at Churchill Downs, won the Mountaineer Juvenile, was 3rd in the Arlington-Washington Futurity but placed 1st through disqualification, was 2nd in the Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland, 4th in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (photo to the right), then a dismal 5th in the Delta Downs Jackpot. Finished 3rd in the Louisiana Derby in the slop for his 2009 debut. Rallied to finish 4th the Blue Grass for his final prep. His trainer said after that he doesn't feel the horse is ready for the Derby so they won't go. He was 12th early in the Preakness and made a mild move late to finish 7th.
He was the even money favorite in the Iowa Derby on June 26, 2009, when he was pulled up on the backstretch, vanned off, and later euthanized due to the severity of his injuries. He had broken sesamoid bones in his right front ankle and a condylar fracture of the cannon bone of his leg. His trainer Al Stall Jr. said that the bones were so severely shattered there was no way he could be saved. Rest in peace Terrain!
