Finished 3rd in the Louisiana Derby in the slop for his 2009 debut. Rallied to finish 4th the Blue Grass for his final prep. His trainer said after that he doesn't feel the horse is ready for the Derby so they won't go. He was 12th early in the Preakness and made a mild move late to finish 7th.
He was the even money favorite in the Iowa Derby on June 26, 2009, when he was pulled up on the backstretch, vanned off, and later euthanized due to the severity of his injuries. He had broken sesamoid bones in his right front ankle and a condylar fracture of the cannon bone of his leg. His trainer Al Stall Jr. said that the bones were so severely shattered there was no way he could be saved. Rest in peace Terrain!
